Mario Matt (born April 9, 1979) is an amazing former alpine ski racer from Austria. He was a top athlete in the World Cup and even won an Olympic gold medal. He was especially good at slalom races.

Mario Matt's Skiing Career
Mario Matt was born in Zams, Tyrol, Austria. He started his World Cup journey in December 1999 when he was 20 years old. Over his career, he won 15 World Cup races. Most of these wins (14) were in slalom, and one was in a special race called "super combined."
Mario also became a world champion in slalom twice. He won these titles in 2001 and 2007. He had a very long and successful career as a slalom racer. He is known for being one of the oldest skiers to win an Olympic gold medal in slalom. This happened at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. He was also one of the oldest to win a regular World Cup slalom race.
Mario Matt announced that he was retiring from ski racing on March 12, 2015. He had a fantastic career that lasted many years.

Life After Skiing
After retiring from professional skiing, Mario Matt started a new chapter in his life. In 2009, he bought a popular bar called Krazy Kanguruh at the Arlberg ski resort in St. Anton. He also has a stable where he raises beautiful Arabian horses.
Family Connections
Mario Matt comes from a family of talented skiers! His brother, Andreas Matt, is also a famous skicross competitor who won an Olympic silver medal. Another brother, Michael Matt, is also an alpine skier.
