Matthew Nable (born March 8, 1972) is an Australian actor, writer, and sports commentator. He used to be a professional rugby league player. He played for the Manly-Warringah and South Sydney clubs in the 1990s.
After his rugby career, Matt Nable wrote and starred in the movie The Final Winter in 2007. This film was about rugby league. He then acted in other movies like Killer Elite and Riddick. He also played the character Ra's al Ghul in the TV shows Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.

Matt Nable's Early Life
Matt Nable grew up in Sydney, Australia, in an area called the Northern Beaches. When he was a young boy, he lived for two years in Portsea, Victoria, because his father, Dave, was a soldier stationed there. He also spent some time growing up in Albury.
His father worked as a trainer for the Australian national rugby league team. Matt's brother, Adam Nable, also became a professional rugby league player.
Matt Nable's Rugby League Career
Matt Nable started playing rugby league in the junior teams for the Manly-Warringah club. He played five games for the main team in 1991 and 1992. After that, he didn't play in the top league again until 1995, when he played three games for the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Later, he played for Carlisle and the London Broncos in England. After playing rugby, Nable stopped playing football. He then tried boxing as an amateur, fighting for a state title. He also worked as a beer salesman and a personal trainer. Eventually, he decided to become a writer.
Matt Nable's Writing and Acting Career
Matt Nable was encouraged by a famous writer named Thomas Keneally. Nable wrote a movie script for The Final Winter. This script was based on a book he had written but not yet published. He and his friends raised money to make the movie, which came out in 2007. The movie received good reviews, but it did not make a lot of money at the box office.
After this, Nable started acting in the United States. He played a detective in a TV movie called S.I.S. in 2008.

Playing Ra's al Ghul
On September 4, 2014, it was announced that Matt Nable would play the role of Ra's al Ghul in the third season of the TV show Arrow. Ra's al Ghul is a well-known comic book villain. Nable played this character in ten episodes of the third season. He also played Ra's al Ghul again in an episode of the TV show Legends of Tomorrow.
Recent Work
In October 2019, Nable was featured in the opening video for the 2019 Bathurst 1000 car race. He has since appeared in many promotions for Fox Sports, especially for their Rugby League channel, Fox League. From 2018 to 2021, he had a repeating role in the Australian TV show Mr Inbetween. In November 2024, it was announced that Nable would be in a new Netflix series called Apple Cider Vinegar.
