A Life in Music
Mauro Maur was the main trumpet player for the Orchestra of the Opera House in Rome from 1985 to 2009. He has appeared on many popular TV and radio shows. He has also recorded music for big labels like BMG Ariola, RCA, Sony Columbia, and Denon. As a trumpet player, conductor, and composer, Mauro Maur has played for theater, television, and movies. He has performed with artists like Gloria Gaynor and Plácido Domingo. He also played with the Solisti Veneti, led by Claudio Scimone.
Mauro Maur finished his music studies in Trieste when he was very young. In 1975, he passed the tough entrance exam for the Conservatoire de Paris. There, he continued to improve his skills with Pierre Thibaud. While still a student, he won the audition to be the first trumpet for the Toulouse National Orchestra. With them, he took part in many competitions around the world. At just 18, he was already in demand as a solo player in France. He performed with famous organists and chamber orchestras at important music festivals. He also studied at North Western University in Chicago.

Mauro Maur won a gold medal at the International Competition of Toulon in 1981. In 1982, he received the First Prize at the Superior National Conservatory of Paris Competition. He also won several other competitions in Lille and at the Opera House in Rome. He won at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. He has also taught at the MusicaRiva Festival in Trentino, at McGill University in Montreal, and in Moscow at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He was a professor of trumpet at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome.
In 2008, Mauro Maur received the Price Oder for his career. In 2009, he received the "Sigillo Trecentesco." This is the highest honor given by the city of Trieste.
The President of the Council of Ministers asked that Mauro Maur be given a special honor. He became a Cavaliere (Knight) of the Order "al Merito della Repubblica Italiana." This award is given by the President of the Italian Republic to people who have done something special for the country.
Working with Ennio Morricone
Mauro Maur worked with Ennio Morricone for over 20 years. He recorded the trumpet solos for many films under Morricone's direction. They worked in the famous "Forum Studios" in Rome. They became close friends. Morricone even dedicated many of his film solos and his "Concerto for trumpet and orchestra 'Ut'" to Mauro Maur. Mauro Maur played this concerto for the first time and recorded it. Morricone also mentioned Mauro Maur many times in his autobiography. He gave Mauro Maur special notes on his music scores after they recorded them. The trumpet that Sergio Leone used in his famous Spaghetti-western films was given by Ennio Morricone to Mauro Maur.

Mauro Maur has played with many famous French orchestras. These include the Opera, National, and Radio orchestras. He has also performed with groups like L'Ars Nova, Les Solistes de France, and Ircam. He has played alongside great soloists like Hendricks and Thibaud.
