McKenzie Mountain is a cool mountain in Essex County, New York. It stands about 3,861 feet (1,177 meters) tall. This mountain is located within the amazing Adirondack Park. The park is a huge area of protected forests and mountains in New York State.

Exploring McKenzie Mountain
McKenzie Mountain is a popular spot for outdoor adventures. It offers great views and fun hiking trails.
Its Old Name: Saddleback
Long ago, McKenzie Mountain had a different name. People used to call it "Saddleback." This was because of its unique shape. From a distance, the mountain looked like a saddle.
Trails to the Top
If you want to hike to the top of McKenzie Mountain, you have two main paths to choose from.
- One trail is looked after by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). It starts from the Jackrabbit Ski Trail. This ski trail connects the towns of Saranac Lake and Lake Placid.
- The other trail is older, dating back to 1896. It is maintained by the Lake Placid Shore Owner's Association. This path begins from the Lake Shore Path and leads all the way to the summit.
Amazing Views from the Summit
When you reach the top of McKenzie Mountain, you'll be treated to incredible sights. You can see many famous landmarks from up there.
- To the north, you can spot Whiteface Mountain. Below it, you'll see the beautiful Lake Placid.
- Looking south, you might see other tall mountains. These include Gothics, Mount Marcy, and the Great Range. You can also see the Seward Mountains.
- There's also a special rocky spot to the west of the trail. From here, you get a clear view of the village of Saranac Lake. You can also see the Saranac Lakes stretching out. Other mountains visible include Moose Pond, Azure Mountain, Saint Regis Mountain, and Debar Mountain.
