The Story of Megamind
Megamind's Big Win
Since they were babies, the supervillain Megamind and the superhero Metro Man have fought. They always battled for control of Metro City. In his newest plan, Megamind and his helper, Minion, kidnap reporter Roxanne Ritchi. They hold her in a special observatory lined with copper.
When Metro Man arrives to save Roxanne, he says that copper makes him weak. Megamind then uses a powerful death ray to defeat him. Megamind finally takes over the city. But his celebration doesn't last long. Without Metro Man to challenge him, Megamind feels his life is empty.
Creating a New Hero (or Villain!)
Megamind walks around the new Metro Man Museum. He sees Roxanne there. He uses his special watch to look like Bernard, the museum's curator. He talks to Roxanne and starts to like her. She says something that gives him an idea: he'll create a new superhero to fight!
Megamind goes back to his secret hideout. He makes a special serum with Metro Man's DNA. He plans to put it into a good person using his Defuser Gun. But Roxanne comes to his lair with her cameraman, Hal Stewart. Megamind accidentally injects Hal with the serum.
Megamind then pretends to be Hal's "Space Dad." He convinces Hal to become a superhero called "Titan." Hal misspells it as "Tighten." Tighten trains with his "Space Dad" for several days. Then, he challenges Megamind to a fight.
Trouble and Discoveries
The day before the big fight, Megamind argues with Minion. Megamind is thinking about giving up being a villain for Roxanne. Meanwhile, Tighten tries to impress Roxanne but fails. Megamind, still disguised as Bernard, takes Roxanne on a dinner date.
Tighten sees them and gets upset because he likes Roxanne. He leaves angrily. Soon after, Megamind's disguise stops working. Roxanne sees that he is Megamind and gets very mad. She storms off. Megamind can't find his invisible car, where he left the Defuser Gun.
Tighten doesn't show up for the planned fight. Megamind finds out that Tighten is using his powers for bad things. Megamind, as "Space Dad" and "Bernard," makes Tighten angry enough to fight him. They have a big super-powered battle.
Tighten tries to kill Megamind instead of arresting him. Megamind lures Tighten into a copper trap. But Tighten is not affected and keeps fighting! Megamind escapes and looks for Roxanne. He hopes she can help him.
The Truth About Metro Man
Roxanne takes Megamind to Metro Man's secret hideout. They are both shocked to find Metro Man alive! Metro Man explains that he faked his death and his weakness to copper. He was tired of being a superhero and wanted to become a music star. He refuses to help. But he tells Megamind that a hero will always rise to challenge evil.
Back in the city, Megamind doesn't believe he can be the hero the city needs. He lets himself be put in prison. Tighten kidnaps Roxanne and demands Megamind show himself. Megamind changes his mind. He apologizes to the prison warden for his past actions.
The warden reveals he is Minion in disguise! Minion accepts Megamind's apology and frees him. They team up to fight Hal.
Becoming a True Hero
As Hal is about to hurt Roxanne, Megamind appears and frees her. They try to escape. But Hal traps Megamind under some rubble. Suddenly, Metro Man arrives, and Hal runs away. Roxanne then realizes that "Megamind" is actually an injured Minion in disguise. And "Metro Man" is really Megamind!
Hal, while flying away, hears Megamind's unique way of speaking. He realizes he was tricked. Hal flies back and fights Megamind. During the fight, Megamind finds his invisible car. He grabs the Defuser Gun and takes the Metro Man serum out of Tighten. This turns Hal back to normal.
Hal is arrested for his crimes. Now, Megamind and Minion are seen as heroes. They appear at the reopening of Metro Man's museum, which is now about Megamind. Metro Man, hidden in the crowd, quietly congratulates his old rival.
During the credits, Bernard is accidentally knocked out by Minion.
Meet the Voices Behind the Characters
- Will Ferrell as Megamind: He is a super-smart alien who starts as a supervillain but becomes a superhero. He is a funny version of villains like Lex Luthor and Brainiac. His "Space Dad" look is a joke on Jor-El from the 1978 Superman movie. His outfits and showmanship are like the rock star Alice Cooper.
- Tina Fey as Roxanne "Roxie" Ritchi: She is a TV news reporter who becomes Megamind's love interest. She is a funny version of Lois Lane.
- Jonah Hill as Hal Stewart/Tighten: He is Roxanne Ritchi's clumsy cameraman who likes her a lot. He becomes a villain named Tighten (even though Megamind wanted to call him "Titan"). His name, Hal Stewart, is a nod to Hal Jordan and John Stewart from the Green Lantern Corps.
- David Cross as Minion: He is a smart talking fish who has been Megamind's best friend since they were kids. His costume looks like Ro-Man from the movie Robot Monster.
- Brad Pitt as Metro Man: He is Megamind's old enemy. He is a funny version of Superman. His outfits and showmanship are like the famous singer Elvis Presley.
- J. K. Simmons as the Warden: He is the strict head of Metro City Prison.
- Ben Stiller as Bernard: He is a museum curator whom Megamind pretends to be to get Roxanne's attention.
- Christopher Knights as a prison guard.
- Tom McGrath as Lord Scott and another prison guard.
- Jack Blessing as a Newscaster.
- Justin Theroux as Megamind's father.
