Mehdi Baghdad, born on April 13, 1985, is a French mixed martial artist. He is known for his fights in MMA. He trains and fights out of Los Angeles, California. Mehdi used to compete in the UFC. He was also a contestant on a TV show called The Ultimate Fighter 22. His nickname is Sultan, which means "High King" or "Emperor" in Arabic.

Mehdi's Fighting Journey
Mehdi Baghdad started training in martial arts when he was 16 years old. He had his very first fight at the age of 20. He became a world champion in Muay Thai, which is a type of boxing. He also won a lightweight championship in a different MMA league called RFA. Mehdi gets his inspiration from his father, who passed away when Mehdi was young. He also looks up to the famous boxer Prince Naseem Hamed.
Competing on The Ultimate Fighter
Mehdi Baghdad joined a special TV show called The Ultimate Fighter 22: Team McGregor vs Team Faber. This show helps fighters try to get into the UFC. Mehdi won his first fight against Artem Lobov. After that win, he joined the team led by famous fighter Conor McGregor. However, in his next fight, Julian Erosa defeated him. This meant Mehdi was out of the tournament.
Fighting in the UFC
Even though Mehdi didn't win The Ultimate Fighter 22, the UFC still signed him. This meant he got to fight in the biggest MMA organization. His first UFC fight was on January 17, 2016, against Chris Wade. Mehdi lost this fight in the first round.
He was then set to fight John Makdessi in June 2016. This fight was moved to July 7, 2016. Mehdi lost this fight by a close decision from the judges. Later, in October 2016, Mehdi was supposed to fight Jon Tuck. But he had to pull out because of an injury. After this, Mehdi was no longer fighting for the UFC.
The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption
In February 2017, Mehdi got another chance on The Ultimate Fighter. This time, it was the 25th season, called The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption. He was one of the first fighters chosen for Team Garbrandt. In his first fight, he faced Jesse Taylor. Mehdi lost this fight by a unanimous decision, which meant he was eliminated from the tournament again.
After the UFC
After his time in the UFC, Mehdi continued to fight. On July 2, 2021, he fought Thibault Gouti for a championship belt. Mehdi lost this fight in the first round. He won his most recent fight on March 7, 2025, against Shabiotas Stanislas.
