Mixed Martial Arts Journey
Starting His Career
Artem Lobov began his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) journey in November 2010 with a European fighting group called Cage Warriors. His first professional fight was a loss to Patrick Vickers. Before he appeared on The Ultimate Fighter, Artem had a record of 11 wins, 10 losses, and 1 draw, plus one fight that ended with no result. He usually competed in the featherweight division but also fought at lightweight and welterweight.
Fighting in Absolute Championship Berkut
On January 31, 2015, Artem fought Rasul Shovhalov at an event called ACB 13. Artem won this fight by making his opponent give up in the second round.
His Time on The Ultimate Fighter
To join The Ultimate Fighter house, fighters must win special preliminary fights. Artem lost his first fight to Mehdi Baghdad. However, his coach and teammate, Conor McGregor, brought him back into the competition. Each coach was allowed to bring back one fighter who had lost in the preliminary rounds.
In the main rounds, Artem defeated James Jenkins by TKO (Technical Knockout). He did the same in the quarter-finals against Chris Gruetzemacher. In the semi-finals, he knocked out Julian Erosa to reach the finals. He was supposed to fight Saul Rogers, another fighter from his team, but Saul had visa problems and was replaced by Ryan Hall.
Competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship
Artem Lobov faced Ryan Hall in the final of The Ultimate Fighter 22 on December 11, 2015. Ryan Hall won the fight by a unanimous decision from the judges.
Artem's next fight was against Alex White on February 6, 2016. He lost this fight by unanimous decision as well.
After these losses, Artem was given another chance in the UFC. He fought Chris Avila at UFC 202 and won by unanimous decision. This was a big win for him.
On November 19, 2016, Artem faced Teruto Ishihara at UFC Fight Night 99. Artem won this fight by unanimous decision too.
Artem then had a big fight against Cub Swanson on April 22, 2017. This was the main event at UFC Fight Night 108. Artem lost the fight by unanimous decision, but both fighters earned the Fight of the Night award for their exciting performance.
Artem's next fight was against Andre Fili on October 21, 2017. He lost this fight by unanimous decision.
Artem was scheduled to fight Alex Caceres on April 7, 2018. However, he was removed from the event due to an incident involving a bus. This happened after a disagreement on April 3, 2018.
Later, Artem was set to fight Zubaira Tukhugov on October 27, 2018. But Tukhugov was removed from the fight because of his involvement in a post-fight incident at UFC 229. Michael Johnson replaced him. Johnson weighed in a little over the limit, so the fight became a special "catchweight" bout. Artem lost this fight by unanimous decision.
On January 29, 2019, it was announced that Artem Lobov had left the UFC.
After the UFC
On September 12, 2020, Artem signed a contract for one fight with Arena Fight Championship. He was supposed to fight Ylies Djiroun on December 12, 2020. However, the event was postponed because of several cases of COVID-19.
Bare-Knuckle Boxing Career
Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship
After leaving the UFC, Artem Lobov signed a three-fight contract with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC). This contract also allowed him to compete in MMA. He fought Jason Knight in the main event of Bare Knuckle FC 5 on April 6, 2019. Artem won the fight by unanimous decision.
Artem's next fight was against Paulie Malignaggi on June 22, 2019, at BKFC 6. There had been some tension between them before the fight. Artem won this fight by unanimous decision. Even though Malignaggi started strong, Artem used constant pressure to win the later rounds.
Artem faced Jason Knight again in a rematch at Bare Knuckle FC 9 on November 16, 2019. This time, Knight won the fight when Artem's corner stopped the fight in the fifth and final round.
Mahatch FC
