His last public job was being appointed by Governor James Rolph to the State Industrial Accident Commission, where he worked from 1931 to 1935.

Key Achievements for Los Angeles

During his time as mayor, Snyder helped Los Angeles grow a lot. He was very active in the successful effort to open the Port of Los Angeles. He also helped connect the port to Los Angeles city through a narrow strip of land.

During his time as mayor, the Third Street Tunnel was built through Bunker Hill, Los Angeles in 1901. Also, the city's water system became owned by the public. He appointed the city's first Water Commission. This commission made plans to bring water to the city from the Owens Valley.

Historians Leonard Pitt and Dale Pitt said that Snyder was a Democrat during a time when Republicans were usually in charge. They noted he was first elected because he supported the city owning the water system. They also mentioned that his time as mayor was a very exciting period in the city's history.
