Michael Bennett Jr. (born in 1985) is a former American football player. He was a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Texas A&M Aggies. In 2009, he joined the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent.
Bennett also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, and Dallas Cowboys. During his career, he was chosen for the Pro Bowl three times. He also won Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seahawks. Michael's brother, Martellus Bennett, was also a professional football player.

Early Life and High School Sports
Michael Bennett grew up in Houston, Texas. He went to Alief Taylor High School. There, he played football, baseball, and ran track.
In football, he was a top defensive lineman. In his senior year, he made 110 tackles and four sacks. He was recognized as one of the best players in his district. Bennett also threw the discus in track and field. His best throw was over 45 meters (147 feet).
College Football Career
In 2005, Michael started playing for Texas A&M. As a freshman, he made 27 tackles. He also had 3.5 quarterback sacks. He played in all 11 games.
In 2006, he continued to be a strong player. He made 27 tackles, including two sacks. He also caused two fumbles. From 2006 to 2008, he played alongside his brother, Martellus Bennett. First Time with the Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks signed Michael Bennett in 2009. He was not chosen in the NFL Draft. The team first thought he would play as a left defensive end. After training, he moved to play as a pass-rushing tackle. During the preseason, he had nine tackles and two sacks. He made the team's final roster.
However, the Seahawks later released him on October 10, 2009. This was to make space for another player.
Playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked up Bennett on October 12, 2009. They moved him back to defensive tackle. He became an important part of their defense. This was especially true when other players were injured.
His best season with the Buccaneers was in 2012. He made 41 tackles and 9 sacks. He also forced 3 fumbles, which were all career highs for him.
Second Time with the Seattle Seahawks
Bennett returned to the Seahawks in 2013. He signed a one-year contract. On December 2, 2013, he scored his first NFL touchdown. He recovered a fumble from Drew Brees, the Saints' quarterback.

Joining the Dallas Cowboys

Helping Communities (Philanthropy)
Michael Bennett and his wife, Pele, started The Bennett Foundation. Their goal is to help people in communities that don't have many resources. They want to promote health and fitness. The foundation works in Washington, Texas, and Hawaii. They offer free education and health screenings. They also organize children's camps and activities. The foundation holds an event called the O.C.E.A.N. Health Fest every year. They also create nutrition education programs for schools.
