Related shows | What a Cartoon! |
Mike, Lu & Og is an American animated TV show. It was created by Mikhail Shindel, Mikhail Aldashin, and Charles Swenson for Cartoon Network. The show is about a girl named Mike from Manhattan who becomes a foreign exchange student. She ends up on a strange tropical island. There, she meets Lu, who thinks she's the island's princess, and Og, a super smart boy. The three friends have many adventures as Mike learns about island life and shares her own customs with the islanders.
The show had 52 short episodes, each about 11 minutes long. They were made by Kinofilm Animation and animated by Studio Pilot in Russia. The main voices were Nika Futterman as Mike, Nancy Cartwright as Lu, and Dee Bradley Baker as Og. The animation style of Mike, Lu & Og looks a bit like other famous cartoons such as Rugrats and The Wild Thornberrys.
After the show stopped making new episodes, reruns were shown on Boomerang from 2006 to 2011. In 2017, the series was added to Cartoon Network on Demand, so people could watch it online.

What is the Show About?
Mike signs up to be a foreign exchange student. For fun, she asks to be sent to a tropical island. She finds herself on a forgotten island called Albonquetine. This island is home to the descendants of British people who were shipwrecked there a long time ago. They try to act like Polynesians, but sometimes it doesn't quite work out! The island is named after one of its founders, Joshua Wendell Albonquetine.
Meet the Characters
Here are the main characters you'll meet in Mike, Lu & Og:
Main Characters
- Mike Mazinsky (voiced by Nika Futterman)
- Mike is an 11-year-old girl from Manhattan, New York. She loves exploring the tropical island but sometimes misses her old life in New York. Luckily, Og is a genius and can often invent things that remind her of home, like a television!
- Lu Bellissimo (voiced by Nancy Cartwright)
- Lu is a 10-year-old girl who believes she is the princess of the island. She is Og's cousin. Lu can be loud and a bit bossy. She often takes advantage of Mike, Og, and her pet turtle, Lancelot. Even though she causes trouble, Lu usually learns a lesson by the end of each episode.
- Lancelot
- Lancelot is Lu's pet land turtle. Lu often makes him wear silly outfits and do dangerous tricks. She also makes him carry her on his back. Because of this, Lancelot often tries to run away from Lu, which is why she keeps him on a leash. Despite the way Lu treats him, Lancelot often helps Mike and the islanders when they are in trouble. He seems to be smarter than most of the humans!
- Og (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker)
- Og is a 7-year-old boy who lives on Albonquetine. He is Lu's cousin. Og loves science and inventing things. His inventions often go wrong, which leads to many of the show's funny plots. Og is good friends with three talking animals: Pig (voiced by Kath Soucie), Goat (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker), and Spiney the porcupine (voiced by Martin Rayner). They form a group called the Philosophical Society and like to discuss big ideas.
Other Island Residents
- Wendell (voiced by S. Scott Bullock)
- Wendell is Lu's father and the island's Governor. He is thin and often struggles to control his daughter. He gets upset easily and sometimes cries. He has been the Governor for many years. He loves collecting tea cosies.
- Alfred (voiced by Martin Rayner)
- Alfred is Og's father and Margery's husband. He is a bit quirky and thinks he is the island's best hunter. He uses arrows with suction cups to try and catch a single wombat. The islanders are mostly vegetarian, so it's a mystery what he would do if he ever caught it!
- Margery (voiced by Kath Soucie)
- Margery is Og's mother and Alfred's wife. She sees herself as an artist and writer. She enjoys painting, sculpting, and cooking. Many of her artworks are about the island's ancestors. She is often seen working on a large sculpture of ancestors on the side of a mountain, like a mini Mount Rushmore. Margery is also the island's chef, making meals and tea for everyone. She is much more sensible than Alfred.
- Old Queeks (voiced by Corey Burton)
- Old Queeks is the island's elder and witch doctor. The islanders often ask him for advice. He can also do a type of magic, like calling spirits. Old Queeks often doesn't like Mike's new ideas, but sometimes he gets caught up in them. He claims to be psychic and "know all and see all." Mike once found out he uses a telescope to spy on everyone from his cave on top of a mountain. Even after Mike told them, the islanders still believed he was psychic. He loves "bat products," which are things made from bat guano, like toothpaste and snacks.
- Pirates
- Three pirates live on a nearby island. They are descendants of the pirates who caused the British to be shipwrecked in the first place. Their leader is Captain (voiced by Brian George), who has two wooden legs and two eye patches but still moves around easily. The other two pirates are First Mate (voiced by Martin Rayner) and Bos'n (voiced by Corey Burton). These pirates often try to catch and eat Lancelot, but Mike, Lu, and Og always stop them. The Captain secretly talks to a rabbit puppet named Bunny, using a squeaky voice for it.
- The Cuzzlewits
- The Cuzzlewits are another group of people living on the other side of the island. Lu doesn't like to admit they exist! They live in caves. One Cuzzlewit girl, Hermione (voiced by Alison Larkin), is very smart. She is often with two Cuzzlewit boys, twin brothers Haggis and Baggis (voiced by Brian George and S. Scott Bullock), who often hit each other with clubs and seem a bit silly. The Cuzzlewits have a much larger population than the Albonquetanians. The adults from both groups don't get along, which is why they live separately. Despite this, Mike and Hermione become friends in one episode. All Cuzzlewits have a unique look: an underbite with bucked lower front teeth.
