Motilal Vora (born December 20, 1928 – died December 21, 2020) was an important Indian politician. He was a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) party. He served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh twice. He was also the Governor of Uttar Pradesh.

Early Life and Family
Motilal Vora was born on December 20, 1928. His birthplace was Nimbi Jodha in Jodhpur State. This area is now part of Rajasthan, India. His parents were Mohanlal Vora and Amba Bai.
He studied in Raipur and Kolkata. Before becoming a politician, he worked for several newspapers. He was a journalist for many years.
Motilal Vora married Shanti Devi Vora. They had six children together. They had four daughters and two sons. His son, Arun Vora, is also a politician. Arun Vora has been elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Durg three times. Motilal Vora's brother, Govindlal Vora, was a well-known journalist.
Start in Politics
Motilal Vora began his political journey in 1968. He became a member of the Municipal Committee of Durg. At that time, Durg was part of Madhya Pradesh.
Around 1970, he joined the Indian National Congress (INC) party. In 1972, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Madhya Pradesh. This is like a state parliament. He was re-elected in 1977 and 1980.
He became a minister in the state government. He was in charge of the Higher Education Department. Later, in 1983, he became a Cabinet Minister. He also helped manage the Madhya Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation from 1981 to 1984.
Becoming Chief Minister
On March 13, 1985, Motilal Vora became the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. This is the head of the state government. He held this important position until February 13, 1988. He then left this role to join the national government.
He served as Chief Minister again for a shorter period. This second term was from January 25, 1989, to December 8, 1989.
Role in National Politics
In 1988, Motilal Vora became a member of the Rajya Sabha. This is one of the two houses of the Indian Parliament. He also became a Union Minister. He was in charge of Health, Family Welfare, and Civil Aviation. These are important roles in the national government of India.
From May 16, 1993, to May 3, 1996, he served as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh. This is another very important state in India. As Governor, he represented the President in the state.
Later, from 1998 to 1999, he was a member of the Lok Sabha. This is the other house of the Indian Parliament.
His Role in the Indian National Congress Party
Motilal Vora was a very trusted leader within the Indian National Congress party. He was close to the party's top leaders. He supported Rahul Gandhi as a potential Prime Minister candidate for the party.
In the 1980s, he was the President of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee. This means he led the party's operations in the state of Madhya Pradesh. He also held important positions in organizations connected to the party. He was the chairman of Associated Journals Limited (AJL) and a director of Young Indian. He also served as the treasurer for the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
Death
Motilal Vora passed away on December 21, 2020. This was just one day after his 92nd birthday. He died due to complications from COVID-19.
