Mount Humphreys is a very tall mountain peak in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It is located in California, right on the border between Fresno and Inyo counties.
This mountain is one of the highest peaks in California. It ranks as the 14th tallest mountain in the state. It is also the highest point in the area around the town of Bishop.

How Mount Humphreys Got Its Name
The mountain was officially named in 1873 by the California Geological Survey. They named it after Andrew A. Humphreys. He was a very important engineer in the United States Army at that time. He helped with many big projects for the country.
First Climbers to Reach the Top
The first recorded climb to the top of Mount Humphreys happened in 1904. Two climbers, Edward C. Hutchinson and James S. Hutchinson, were the first to successfully reach its summit. Climbing this mountain can be quite challenging. The easiest way to climb it is rated as a class 4 difficulty.
