How Did Mount McAdie Get Its Name?
The mountain was given its name in 1905. It was named to honor Alexander George McAdie. He was in charge of the U.S. Weather Bureau in San Francisco at that time.
Alexander McAdie had visited the top of Mount Whitney in 1903. James E. Church was the person who named Mount McAdie after him. The name "Mount McAdie" first appeared on a map in 1956. This was on a special map made by the USGS.
Climbing Mount McAdie
The north peak of Mount McAdie is the highest point. Climbers can reach it from a place called Arc Pass. The first person to climb this peak was Norman Clyde in 1922.
The west side of the mountain was first climbed in 1954. This climb is considered a difficult one. It is rated as a Class 4 climb on the Yosemite Decimal System (YDS).
Mountain climbing can be very challenging and requires great skill. In 1968, a group of experienced climbers faced difficulties on Mount McAdie.
