Munno Para is a suburb located north of Adelaide in South Australia. It's part of the City of Playford. The name Munno Para comes from the local Kaurna language. It means 'golden wattle creek'. This name might refer to the Gawler River or the Little Para River. A larger area called the Hundred of Munno Para also got its name from these rivers.

A Look at Munno Para's Past

Munno Para was once part of the City of Munno Para until 1997. Before that, it was split into two smaller areas. These were called the Munno Para East and Munno Para West. They were set up in the 1850s.

The suburb itself started to grow in 1955. It officially received its name in 1978. Before 1955, Munno Para was mostly farmland. The Andrews Family farmed a large part of the area.

New Developments and Growth

In the 2000s, a big project called Playford Alive began. This project brought new buildings and shops to Munno Para. It helped create a new town centre with stores and businesses. This new centre is located along Curtis Road and Peachey Road.

Munno Para is located northeast of Elizabeth and Smithfield. The older part of the suburb is shaped like a rectangle. It sits between the Gawler railway line and Main North Road. Newer parts of Munno Para are also found west of the railway line. The whole area is quite flat, with a slight slope towards the west and south.

Only one road, Curtis Road, crosses the railway line in Munno Para. This road is on the southern edge of the suburb. People can also walk across the railway line at the Munno Para railway station.

Main North Road runs along the eastern side of Munno Para. Stebonheath Road is on the western side. Coventry Road used to run straight between these two roads. Now, it has some bends to help slow down traffic.

In 2006, the Australian Bureau of Statistics counted 1,754 people living in Munno Para. About half were male and half were female.
