Myles Lorenz Garrett (born December 29, 1995) is an American professional football player. He plays as a defensive end for the Cleveland Browns in the National Football League (NFL).
Myles played college football for the Texas A&M Aggies. In 2016, he was recognized as a top college player, earning "unanimous All-American" honors. The Browns chose him as the very first player in the 2017 NFL draft. Today, Garrett is the Browns' all-time leader in sacks. He has been chosen for the Pro Bowl six times and has been named a first-team All-Pro four times. In 2023, he won the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Early Life & High School Sports
Myles Garrett grew up in Arlington, Texas. He went to Martin High School. There, he was a star in three sports: football, basketball, and track.
In high school football, Myles was amazing. As a senior, he made 19.5 sacks. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the opposing team's quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. In 2013, he won the Landry Award, which goes to the best high school football player in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Experts rated him as one of the top high school players in the country. In October 2013, he decided to play college football at Texas A&M University.
Myles was also a strong athlete in track and field. He was good at throwing events. He could throw the shot put 16.01 meters and the discus throw 50.84 meters.
College Football Career
Myles Garrett was considered one of the best young players when he joined Texas A&M.
Freshman Year (2014)
As a first-year player in 2014, Myles quickly made an impact. He broke the Texas A&M record for sacks by a freshman, getting 5.5 sacks in just six games. In only nine games, he also broke the Southeastern Conference (SEC) freshman sack record, which was eight.
He finished his freshman season with 11.5 sacks, which was second-best in the SEC. He also had 53 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and a blocked kick. After the season, he had surgery on his hand for an injury he got during a game.
Sophomore Year (2015)
In his second year, Myles led the SEC with 12.5 sacks. He had 57 total tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, and forced five fumbles. He even got his first interception by tipping a ball and catching it himself.
His great performance earned him a first-team All-American selection. He also won the Bill Willis Award as the best defensive lineman in college football.
Junior Year (2016)
Myles's junior year was affected by injuries. He hurt his ankle in the fourth game of the season. This injury caused him to miss some games and limited his playing time in others.
Despite the injuries, he still had a good season. He recorded 8.5 sacks, 32 total tackles, and 15 tackles for loss. For his efforts, he was named a Unanimous Consensus All-American. This means he was recognized as a top player by many different sports organizations.

Professional Football Career
After his junior year, Myles Garrett decided to enter the NFL draft. Many experts believed he would be the first player chosen.
Pre-Draft Performance
Myles showed off his amazing athletic skills at the NFL Scouting Combine. He had a 41-inch vertical jump, which was the best among all defensive linemen. He also performed very well in the bench press and broad jump. His speed for his size also impressed scouts.
Experts from Sports Illustrated and ESPN ranked him as the top overall player in the draft.

Rookie Season (2017)
The Cleveland Browns chose Myles Garrett as the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. This made him the highest-drafted player ever from Texas A&M.
In May 2017, the Browns signed Myles to a four-year contract worth over $30 million. He was expected to be a starting defensive end.
Myles missed the first four games of his rookie season due to an ankle injury. He played his first game on October 8 against the New York Jets. In that game, he sacked the quarterback twice, including on his very first NFL play!
Even though he played only 11 games due to injuries, he still led the team with seven sacks. He was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team.
Second Season (2018)

Myles was named a defensive captain for the 2018 season. He started all 16 games.
He had a fantastic season, recording 13.5 sacks, which was the sixth-highest in the NFL. He also had 44 tackles and forced three fumbles. For his great performance, he was chosen for his first Pro Bowl.
Third Season (2019)
In 2019, Myles continued to be a strong player. He had three sacks in a game against the Jets.
Incident with Mason Rudolph
During a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, an incident happened near the end of the game. Myles Garrett and Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph were involved in a heated moment. Garrett removed Rudolph's helmet and swung it, hitting Rudolph. Other players also got involved in the scuffle.
Myles was immediately ejected from the game. The NFL later suspended him for the rest of the 2019 season. He was also fined. Myles apologized for his actions, calling them "foolish." He was later reinstated for the 2020 season.
Fourth Season (2020)
Myles was back on the field in 2020. In July 2020, he signed a big five-year contract extension with the Browns.
He had a great start to the season. In Week 2, he forced a fumble that the Browns recovered. In Week 3, he sacked the quarterback twice and recovered his own forced fumble. He continued to play well, earning the AFC Defensive Player of the Month award for October.
Myles was named to the Pro Bowl and the 2020 All-Pro Team. He was ranked as one of the top players in the NFL by his fellow players.
Fifth Season (2021)
Myles had an incredible 2021 season. In Week 3, he recorded 4.5 sacks in one game, setting a new Browns franchise record!
In Week 14, he made history again. He sacked the quarterback, forced a fumble, recovered the ball, and ran it into the end zone for his first NFL touchdown! This sack was his 15th of the season, breaking the Browns' single-season sack record.
He finished the season with a career-high 16 sacks and 51 tackles. He was named a starter in the 2022 Pro Bowl and earned a first-team selection on the 2021 All-Pro Team.
Sixth Season (2022)
In 2022, Myles continued his strong play. He finished the season with 16 sacks and 60 total tackles. He was once again named a Pro Bowler. He was also ranked among the top players in the NFL.
Seventh Season (2023)
Myles had another outstanding season in 2023. In Week 7, he had nine tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles. He also blocked a field goal, helping the Browns win a close game.
He finished the regular season with 14 sacks. He earned his fifth Pro Bowl selection and his third first-team All-Pro selection. At the NFL Honors awards, Myles Garrett was named the Defensive Player of the Year for the first time! This award recognized him as the best defensive player in the league.
Eighth Season (2024)
In 2024, Myles continued to dominate. In Week 9, he had three sacks. In Week 12, he recorded three more sacks and forced a fumble. He finished the season with 14 sacks and led the NFL in tackles-for-loss with 22. He received his sixth Pro Bowl nomination and fourth first-team All-Pro nomination.
Future with the Browns (2025)
After the 2024 season, Myles Garrett signed a new four-year contract extension with the Browns. This deal made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, showing how important he is to the team. The contract keeps him with the Browns through the 2030 NFL season.

Personal Life & Interests
Myles Garrett comes from a family of athletes. His half-brother, Sean Williams, played basketball for Boston College and was drafted into the NBA. His older sister, Brea Garrett, was a track and field athlete at Texas A&M. She won a national college title in the 20-pound weight throw.
Myles has other interests besides football. He enjoys writing poetry. He was also working on a dinosaur book for children.
In 2015, Myles decided to stop using his Twitter account for a while. He said he wanted to avoid negativity and focus on his personal growth and football career. He later started using Twitter again.
In 2017, after being drafted, Myles threw out the first pitch at a Cleveland Guardians baseball game. In 2021, a mural of Myles as a child with his grandmother was painted in downtown Cleveland.
In 2022, Myles was in a car crash but only had minor injuries. In 2023, he bought a small part of the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team. He also acts as an ambassador for the team.
