Myles Lorenz Garrett (born December 29, 1995) is an American professional football player. He plays as a defensive end for the Cleveland Browns in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Texas A&M Aggies. In 2016, he was recognized as one of the best college players in the country.
The Browns chose Garrett as the very first player in the 2017 NFL draft. He has since become the team's all-time leader in sacks. Myles Garrett has been selected for the Pro Bowl six times. He has also been named to the first-team All-Pro four times. In 2023, he won the award for Defensive Player of the Year.

Early Life and High School Football
Myles Garrett grew up in Arlington, Texas. He went to Martin High School. There, he was a top athlete in football, basketball, and track.
In high school football, he was amazing. He had 19.5 sacks in his senior year. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. In 2013, he won the Landry Award. This award goes to the best high school football player in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Experts rated him as one of the top players in his class. He decided to play college football at Texas A&M University in October 2013.
Myles was also good at track and field. He was a state qualifier in throwing events. He threw the shot put 16.01 meters and the discus throw 50.84 meters.

Freshman Year Success
In 2014, as a freshman, Garrett quickly made an impact. He broke the Aggies' freshman record for sacks in just six games. He also broke the Southeastern Conference (SEC) freshman sack record. He finished the season with 11.5 sacks. He also had 53 tackles and blocked a kick. He was named a Freshman All-American. After the season, he had surgery for a hand injury.
Sophomore Year Highlights
Garrett continued to shine in his sophomore year. He led the SEC with 12.5 sacks. He also had 57 tackles and forced five fumbles. Junior Year and Injuries
Myles Garrett's junior year in 2016 was affected by injuries. He hurt his ankle early in the season. This caused him to miss some games. Even with the injury, he still recorded 8.5 sacks. He also had 32 tackles and two forced fumbles. Despite the injuries, he was still named a Unanimous Consensus All-American. Professional NFL Career
Myles Garrett decided to enter the NFL Draft after his junior year. Many experts believed he would be the first player chosen.
Joining the Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns selected Myles Garrett as the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft. This made him the highest draft pick ever from Texas A&M. In May 2017, the Browns signed him to a four-year contract. It was worth over $30 million.
Rookie Season (2017)
Garrett started his first NFL season as a defensive end. However, he suffered an ankle injury before the season began. He missed the first four games. He played his first game on October 8, 2017. In that game, he sacked the opposing quarterback twice. One of these sacks happened on his very first NFL play!
Despite injuries, he finished his rookie season with seven sacks. He also had 31 tackles. He was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. This means he was one of the best rookies in the league.
Becoming a Defensive Leader (2018)
In 2018, Garrett was named a defensive captain for the Browns. He had a fantastic season. He played in all 16 games. He recorded 13.5 sacks, which was sixth-best in the NFL. 2019 Season and Suspension

The NFL suspended Garrett for the rest of the 2019 season. He was also fined. This was a very long suspension for an on-field incident. Garrett later apologized for his actions. He was reinstated by the NFL in February 2020.
Return and Contract Extension (2020)

The 2021 season was a record-breaking one for Garrett. In one game against the Bears, he had 4.5 sacks. This broke the Browns' record for most sacks in a single game. Later in the season, he set a new Browns record for most sacks in a single season with 16. He also scored his first NFL touchdown by recovering a fumble and running it into the end zone.

Continued Excellence (2022-2024)
Garrett continued to be one of the NFL's top defensive players. In 2022, he finished with 16 sacks and was named a Pro Bowler.
In 2023, he had 14 sacks and four forced fumbles. He earned his fifth Pro Bowl selection and third first-team All-Pro selection. At the NFL Honors awards, Myles Garrett was named the Defensive Player of the Year. This was a huge achievement, recognizing him as the best defensive player in the league.
In 2024, Garrett continued his dominant play. He had 14 sacks and led the NFL with 22 tackles-for-loss. He earned his sixth Pro Bowl nomination and fourth first-team All-Pro nomination.

Personal Life and Interests
Myles Garrett comes from a family of athletes. His half-brother, Sean Williams, played basketball for Boston College. He was drafted into the NBA and played from 2007 to 2012. Myles's older sister, Brea Garrett, was a track and field athlete at Texas A&M. She won a national title in the 20-pound weight throw in 2014.
Myles Garrett has other interests besides football. He enjoys writing poetry. He was also working on a dinosaur book for children. He once stopped using social media because he felt there was too much negativity. He said he wanted to focus on being a better person and player.
In 2017, after being drafted, Garrett threw out the first pitch at a Cleveland Browns baseball game. In 2021, a mural of a young Myles and his grandmother was painted in downtown Cleveland.
