Nadeem–Shravan was a very famous music duo from India. They made music for many Bollywood movies. The duo was made up of two talented composers: Nadeem Akhtar Saifi (born 6 August 1954) and Shravan Kumar Rathod (13 November 1954 – 22 April 2021).
Nadeem–Shravan were among the most successful music directors in Bollywood during the 1990s and early 2000s. Their music often used sounds from traditional Indian classical music. They were known for using instruments like the bansuri (a flute), the sitar (a string instrument), and the shehnai (a wind instrument) in their songs. They blended these traditional sounds with modern music, creating a unique style. Many people consider them to be some of the best music composers in the history of Hindi cinema.
Their biggest hit was the soundtrack for the movie Aashiqui (1990). This album sold 20 million copies in India, becoming the best-selling Bollywood soundtrack ever! Their success also helped a music company called T-Series become very popular. The duo's work paused for a while after the founder of T-Series, Gulshan Kumar, passed away. Nadeem Akhtar Saifi was wrongly accused of being involved, but he was later proven innocent. The duo eventually returned to making music in the 2000s.
Nadeem–Shravan created music for many popular Hindi films. Some of these include Aashiqui (1990), Saajan (1991), Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991), Deewana (1992), Raja Hindustani (1996), and Dhadkan (2000).
They often worked with famous singers like Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, and Udit Narayan. Other well-known singers such as Anuradha Paudwal, Sonu Nigam, and Hariharan also sang for them. Even legendary singers like Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar recorded songs with them early in their careers.

The Start of Their Music Journey
Nadeem Akhtar Saifi and Shravan Kumar Rathod first met in 1973. Their first movie project was a Bhojpuri film called Dangal in 1977. They also composed music for a Hindi movie called Maine Jeena Seekh Liya in 1981.
Their Big Breakthrough in Music
Their most significant success came with the film Aashiqui in 1990. This movie's music made them very famous. The soundtrack for Aashiqui is considered one of the greatest Bollywood soundtracks ever. It sold an amazing 20 million copies, making it the top-selling Bollywood soundtrack of all time.
After Aashiqui, they continued to have many hits. Their music was featured in movies like Saajan, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Raja, and Raja Hindustani. Many of their songs, like "Adayein Bhi Hain" from Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin and "Do Dil Mil Rahe Hain" from Pardes, became very popular.
Their songs often had a style called filmi-ghazal, which mixes movie music with a poetic singing style called ghazal. They were also greatly inspired by Indian classical music.
For the movie Pardes (1997), they created a variety of songs. These included patriotic songs like "I Love My India," romantic songs like "Do Dil Mil Rahe Hain," and emotional songs like "Ye Dil Deewana." Critics said the music for Pardes was some of their best work.
Nadeem–Shravan worked with many talented lyricists, who write the words for songs. Some of these included Sameer and Anand Bakshi.
Later Years and Separation
Even when Nadeem moved to the UK, he and Shravan continued to work together on music. However, they later decided to work separately after the film Dosti: Friends Forever in 2005.
Shravan's Passing
Sadly, on 22 April 2021, Shravan Kumar Rathod passed away due to COVID-19. He had been in the hospital for several days before his death.
