Nargiz Birk-Petersen (born August 7, 1976) is an Azerbaijani-American lawyer, TV presenter, and former model. She is best known for hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. She hosted the show alongside Eldar Gasimov and Leyla Aliyeva.

Nargiz Birk-Petersen grew up in Baku, Azerbaijan. When she was 16, she started studying law at Khazar University. While studying, she also worked as a reporter for the university's English news program.

Moving to the United States

In 1994, Nargiz moved to the United States to live with her father. There, she worked as a model to help pay for her studies. She earned a degree in psychology from the University of Michigan. Later, she continued her education, getting advanced law degrees from Wayne State University Law School and Georgetown University Law Center.

Working as a Lawyer

Nargiz first worked as a lawyer in Washington, D.C.. After that, she moved to Moscow, Russia, and worked there until 2011.

Hosting Eurovision

In early 2012, Nargiz became the Head of Communications for Baku's bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics. That same year, she was chosen to co-host the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. She got the job after trying out in a special audition.

She presented three live TV shows on May 22, 24, and 26, 2012. She hosted with singer Eldar Gasimov and TV presenter Leyla Aliyeva. More than 100 million people around the world watched these shows!

After Eurovision

After Eurovision, Nargiz continued her career as a lawyer. She worked for big pharmaceutical companies like Novo Nordisk and Shire. Since 2019, she has been a senior director at Takeda Pharmaceutical Company. She also works as the Head Counsel for the Dubai International Financial Centre.

Her Family Life

Nargiz Birk-Petersen's mother, Maleyka Abbaszadeh, is a well-known person in Azerbaijan. She leads the State Student Admission Commission. Nargiz is married to Ulrik Birk-Petersen, who is a diplomat from Denmark. They met in Washington, D.C. Today, Nargiz lives in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with her husband and their three children. She used to live in Copenhagen, Denmark.
