Honduras is a country in Central America that has many amazing historical places. These places show us about its ancient past, long before Europeans arrived, as well as its time under Spanish rule, and when it became an independent country.
Honduran law protects these important sites. This means things like old buildings, beautiful furniture, and traditional folk art are kept safe for everyone to learn from and enjoy.

Protecting Honduras's History
The law that protects historical monuments and national heritage was created by the National Congress of Honduras. The Honduran Institute of Anthropology and History (IHAH) is in charge of this law. They make sure these historical treasures are looked after.
Under Honduran law, all ancient sites and historical objects belong to the people of Honduras. The IHAH acts as the guardian of these treasures. Their job is to study these sites, manage the historical items, and share knowledge about Honduras's past with everyone.
There's even a special office, called the Fiscalia de Etnias, that helps make sure the laws about national heritage are followed. If someone breaks these laws, this office takes action.
