History of Niangua
The first people settled in Niangua before the Civil War. A post office opened in the area in 1870. The community got its name from the nearby Niangua River.

Niangua is located at coordinates 37.388793 degrees North and -92.831077 degrees West. The city covers a total area of about 0.41 square miles (1.06 square kilometers). All of this area is land, meaning there are no large bodies of water within the city limits.
Niangua is conveniently located near major transportation routes. It is only three miles from Interstate 44, a big highway. The city is also five miles north of Marshfield, another nearby town.
