Nick Leddy's Amazing Hockey Journey

Early Years and Becoming a Pro

Nick Leddy showed his talent early on. In his junior year at Eden Prairie High School, he scored 5 goals and made 22 assists. This helped him earn honors like second-team all-Metro.

Even though the USA Hockey National Team Development Program wanted him, Nick chose to finish high school with his team. In his senior year (2008–09), he scored 12 goals and made 33 assists. This amazing season helped his team win a state title! Nick also won the "Minnesota Mr. Hockey" award.

After high school, Nick went to the University of Minnesota. He scored a power-play goal in his first college game. However, he broke his jaw soon after, missing eight games. When he returned, he quickly started scoring and assisting again.

Nick was named the team's Rookie of the Year. He played 30 games and was one of the top defensemen with 11 points. He was also very disciplined, only getting two penalties all season.

The Minnesota Wild drafted Nick 16th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Later, in 2010, the Wild traded his rights to the Chicago Blackhawks.

In July 2010, Nick Leddy signed a three-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. He decided to become a professional player after just one year at the University of Minnesota. The Blackhawks' general manager, Stan Bowman, was very excited about Nick joining the team.

Nick played his first NHL game on October 7, 2010. Just four days later, he scored his first NHL goal against the Buffalo Sabres. In his first season (2010–11), he played 46 games, scoring four goals and making three assists. He also made his playoff debut that year.

In the 2011–12 season, Nick played all 82 games. He scored three goals and made 34 assists, totaling 37 points. He also scored his first playoff goal against the Phoenix Coyotes.

The 2012–13 season was shorter, but Nick played all 48 games. He scored six goals and made 12 assists. This season was special because the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup! They beat the Boston Bruins in six games in the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals. Nick was a key part of that winning team.

In the 2013–14 season, Nick continued to play strong. He played all 82 games, scoring seven goals and making 24 assists. The Blackhawks made another deep playoff run. They reached the Western Conference Finals but lost to the Los Angeles Kings.

New York Islanders (2014–2021)
