History of Noak Hill
Noak Hill has a long history, dating back many centuries.
How Noak Hill Got Its Name
The name "Noak" comes from an old English phrase, atten oak. This means "at the oak tree". So, Noak Hill likely got its name because of a special oak tree that stood there a long time ago!
Noak Hill's Early Government
Noak Hill was once a part of a much older area called the ancient parish of Hornchurch. By the 1500s, it started to be managed by the local church group in Romford, called a vestry.
Later, in 1849, Noak Hill became part of the new Romford civil parish. A civil parish is a local area with its own government. From 1895, Noak Hill became its own separate civil parish. It even had its own local council, called a parish council, until 1934. These councils helped make decisions for the local community.
Geography of Noak Hill
