Even though the locality is called North Stradbroke Island, it doesn't cover the entire island. There are three other smaller towns on the island. These towns are Dunwich, Amity, and Point Lookout. However, most of the island's land is still part of this main locality.
A large part of the middle and south of this locality is a protected area. It is called the Naree Budjong Djara National Park. This park helps protect the island's unique plants and animals.
There is also an airfield here called Dunwich Aerodrome. It is about 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) southwest of the town of Dunwich.
