OVO Sound

Ronald Rummell Coleman, known as OG Ron C, was born on August 19, 1973. He is an American DJ, a radio host, and a music producer who has even been nominated for a Grammy Award. He is currently signed with OVO Sound and works as a DJ for KQBT 93.7 The Beat radio station.

OG Ron C owns an online radio station in Houston, Texas, called ChopNotSlop Radio. He used to be the DJ for Southern rappers Chamillionaire and Slim Thug. He also helped start Swishahouse Records with Michael 5000 Watts. Together, they helped begin the careers of artists like Slim Thug, Chamillionaire, Paul Wall, and Mike Jones.

He is the leader and founder of The Chopstars. OG Ron C was the first DJ in Houston to have a special day named after him (September 4). He is famous for his "F-Action Series Mixtape," which features R&B songs that are "Chopped and Screwed" (a style of music where the tempo is slowed down). He has created over 4,200 mixtapes and albums. So far, he has sold more than 22,000,000 mixtapes and albums. He also started Chopnotslop Radio, a 24-hour radio station dedicated to the "Screwed" music style created by DJ Screw.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Ronald Rummell Coleman, also known as DJ OG Ron C, started his DJ journey at parties in his neighborhood in 5th Ward, Houston. This was when he was a freshman in high school. In his senior year, he got a job on the first street team for Houston radio station Majic 102.

After high school, Ron C received a grant to study communication at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. He attended Wiley for a year and worked at the school's radio station, KBWC. After a year, he moved back to Houston and got an internship at the urban radio station 97.9 The Box.

In 1994, Ron C got a paid job at KBXX 97.9 FM. That same year, he met Michael "5000" Watts, who was also a DJ at the station. A new style of rap music, created by DJ Screw, was becoming very popular. Ron C teamed up with Watts to create their own "Chopped and Screwed" mixtapes.

Starting Swishahouse Records

In 1995, Swishahouse Records was founded by Ron C and Michael "5000" Watts. DJ Screw allowed rappers from the south side of town to perform on his tapes. Swishahouse decided to do the same for rappers on the north side.

In 1997, Ron C and Watts started hosting parties for high school students. These parties included freestyle contests to find new music talent in the city. Chamillionaire, Slim Thug, and Paul Wall often attended these contests. After impressing Ron C and Watts, they were invited to join The Swishahouse.

In 1999, Ron C left radio to release an independent Swishahouse album called "The Day Hell Broke Loose." This album sold 100,000 copies and became a classic in Houston. Around this time, people started calling him OG Ron C. The next year, Ron signed a deal with DJ Madd Hatta's label, Paid-n-Full Records. They released "Southern's Finest," which sold 40,000 copies. It featured the popular song "In Love with my money" by Chamillionaire and Paul Wall. In the early 2000s, Ron C and Watts decided to go their separate ways. OG Ron C left Swishahouse, the label he helped create.

Working with Chamillionaire

After leaving Swishahouse, OG Ron C continued to make his popular "F-Action Series," which featured "Chopped and Screwed" R&B songs. He was nominated for four Justo Awards, which are like the Grammy Awards for DJs. He won two Justo's for "Best Dirty South Mixtape DJ" in 2004 and 2005.

Also in 2004, OG Ron C became the official DJ for the platinum-selling artist Chamillionaire. He performed as Chamillionaire's show DJ and was his exclusive mixtape DJ for Chamillitary mixtapes. In 2005, he won his first Southern Entertainment award for the best "Chopped and Screwed" CD. He also released two independent albums: "Real Recognize Real" with his brother Wood, and "Diamonds and Tattoos" with local artist Tow Down. Both albums sold over 20,000 copies.

Achievements and Collaborations

By 2006, OG Ron C had appeared on TV shows like 106 and Park and Rap City. He had also "chopped up" over 100 major and independent albums. He worked on over 200 mixtapes for artists such as Three 6 Mafia, Master P, Chingy, 8Ball & MJG, Devin the Dude, Z-Ro, Lil' Flip, and Pitbull. His "Chopped and Screwed" version of Chamillionaire's "Sound Of Revenge" sold more than any other "Chopped and Screwed" CD released by a major label. OG Ron C has also been featured in magazines like XXL, The Source, and Ozone.

In 2013, OG Ron C created a remix for the Swedish hip-hop duo Lorentz & Sakarias's song "Molnen (Ni kan inte nå mig)" featuring Duvchi. In a new step for him, he also worked with the California-based indie rock band The Neighbourhood. He created a "Chopped Not Slopped" remix of their song "Afraid".

ChopNotSlop Radio and The Chopstars

In 2008, OG Ron C launched his website, CHOPNOTSLOP.COM. He created this site to help keep DJ Screw's music alive. The website also features Chopnotslop Radio, which is the world's first 24-hour "Screwed Up" radio station.

Because he is a big influence on other DJs, he started The Chopstars to help new "Chopped and Screwed" DJs. He began with DJ Lil Steve, who had been his student since 2005. In 2008, he added DJ Candlestick to the team. In 2009, he brought in DJ Hollygrove and DJ Chose, who is a well-known DJ, producer, and artist in Texas. DJ Chose is also a member of the group Brook Gang Music, which OG Ron C manages.

In 2009, he reconnected with Michael '5000' Watts, his former partner from Swishahouse. They released "The Return Of The Realest," which was downloaded many times. Through Chopnotslop.com, he continues to release new mixtapes and albums. He always wanted to keep DJ Screw's legacy alive by offering his unique style of music.
