Oakland Park, officially called the City of Oakland Park, is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. It is part of the South Florida metropolitan area. This larger area was home to over 6 million people in 2020. In 2020, Oakland Park itself had a population of 44,229 people.

History of Oakland Park
Oakland Park was first known as Floranada. This name was a mix of "Florida" and "Canada." The town faced big financial problems after a strong hurricane hit in 1926.
When the town was rebuilt, residents decided to make it a city. They voted to change its name to Oakland Park. The city's original borders were much larger. Over time, Oakland Park has grown to its current size. This happened by adding nearby areas like Twin Lakes South and North Andrews Gardens.
Geography of Oakland Park
Oakland Park is located at about 26.176362 degrees North and 80.144509 degrees West. The city covers a total area of about 21.1 square kilometers (8.2 square miles). Most of this area, about 19.3 square kilometers (7.5 square miles), is land. The remaining 1.8 square kilometers (0.7 square miles) is water.
The Florida East Coast Railway runs through the middle of Oakland Park. This railway is next to Dixie Highway in the city's downtown area. Oakland Park has plans to make its downtown a lively place for walking and shopping. They also hope to add a new train station along the railway line.
Oakland Park shares a border with the city of Wilton Manors. Because property prices have gone up in Wilton Manors, more people are interested in Oakland Park. This has helped boost plans for the city's downtown area.

Oakland Park has a tropical climate. This is similar to the weather found in many parts of the Caribbean. It is one of the few places in the United States with this type of climate. It generally has a tropical monsoon climate. This means it has warm temperatures all year and a lot of rain during certain seasons.

Economy and Businesses
Oakland Park is home to Funky Buddha Brewery. This brewery makes popular beers like Floridian Hefeweizen and Hop Gun IPA. They also create special drinks such as No Crusts Peanut Butter and Jelly Brown Ale. The brewery opened in 2013 and sells its products throughout Florida. It also helps support local events, like the yearly Oakland Park Oktoberfest [1].
The movie theater company Muvico used to have its main office in Oakland Park. However, the company closed down in 2017.
Media and News
Oakland Park is part of a large media area that includes Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Hollywood. This is one of the biggest radio and television markets in the United States. The main daily newspapers for the area are the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and The Miami Herald. There are also Spanish versions of these newspapers, El Sentinel and El Nuevo Herald.
Libraries
The main public library in Oakland Park is called the Ethel M. Gordon Oakland Park Library. You can find it at 1298 NE 37th Street.
The library started thanks to Ethel M. Gordon. In 1951, she gave her own book collection to the community. She kept the books in the Oakland Park Women's Clubhouse. Later, Ethel Gordon ran for a spot on the City Commission. She promised to create a city library if she won. The City of Oakland Park Library officially opened on February 10, 1958.
On October 16, 2013, the city decided to rename the library in honor of Ethel M. Gordon.
