Ochiltree County (pronounced OK-əl-TREE) is a county located in the Texas Panhandle, which is the northern part of the U.S. state of Texas. In 2020, about 10,015 people lived there. The main town, or county seat, is Perryton. The county was created in 1876 and officially organized in 1889. It is named after William Beck Ochiltree, who was a lawyer and an important leader for the Republic of Texas. For many years, Ochiltree County was a "dry county," meaning that selling alcoholic drinks was not allowed.
