Oconto River facts for kids
The Oconto River is a cool river in northeastern Wisconsin. It flows into Lake Michigan through a part of the lake called Green Bay. Think of it as a smaller stream, or a tributary, that feeds into a much bigger body of water.
The Oconto River is about 56.9 miles (91.6 kilometers) long. It starts where its North and South branches meet near a town called Suring, Wisconsin. From there, it travels all the way to Green Bay, ending at the city of Oconto.
The area of land that drains water into the Oconto River is called its drainage basin. This basin is huge, covering about 2,416 square miles (6,257 square kilometers)! It includes most of Oconto County and parts of other counties like Shawano, Marinette, Menominee, Langlade, and Forest.
