Oliver Wolcott Jr. was born in Litchfield, Connecticut, on January 11, 1760. His father, Oliver Wolcott Sr., was also a very important person. He signed the Declaration of Independence.
Young Oliver went to Yale University, a famous college. He graduated in 1778. After college, he studied law at Litchfield Law School. This prepared him for a career in government and law.
Starting His Career
Wolcott Jr. began his career in public service. He worked for the state of Connecticut. He was a lawyer and a judge. These early jobs helped him learn a lot about how government works.

Serving as Treasury Secretary
