Oneonta is a city located in Blount County, Alabama, United States. It is the main city of Blount County, meaning it is the county seat. In 2020, about 6,938 people lived there. Oneonta is also known for hosting the Covered Bridge Festival.

History of Oneonta
Oneonta got its name from Oneonta, New York. This was the hometown of a railroad official. A post office opened in Oneonta in 1889. That same year, Oneonta became the county seat. This means it became the center for county government.
During World War II, a small camp for prisoners of war was located near Oneonta.
Geography of Oneonta
Oneonta is in eastern Blount County. It sits in a place called Murphree Valley. This valley is between Red Mountain and Sand Mountain to the northwest. Straight Mountain is to the southeast.
U.S. Route 231 goes right through the middle of the city. This road leads to Cleveland, Alabama, about 7 miles northwest. It also goes southeast to Interstate 59 in Ashville, about 14 miles away.
The city covers a total area of about 15.88 square miles (41.14 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a very small part being water.

Fun Things to Do in Oneonta: Attractions
Oneonta, Alabama, has many fun things to see and do.
- Covered Bridge Festival: This yearly event celebrates the history of covered bridges in Blount County. It includes an arts and crafts fair. There is also entertainment and other activities.
- Blount County Memorial Museum: This museum has many resources for learning about local history. You can also research your family's past here.
- Palisades Park: This park offers hiking trails for outdoor adventures. It also has public campgrounds if you want to stay overnight.
- June Fling: The Oneonta Business Association puts on this annual summer festival. It features over 100 booths and a car show. There is also entertainment, a Kidz Fun Zone, and a singing contest.
- New Shopping Center: A new shopping center is being built in Oneonta. It will have popular stores like Marshalls and Five Below. It is expected to open in the fall of 2025.

Oneonta City Schools provides public education for students. There are three schools in the city:

- Joe Gibbs: He helped start the Golf Channel.
- Osmond Ingram: A brave sailor in the United States Navy during World War I. He received the Medal of Honor after he died.
- Steve Patton: He was the head coach for the Gardner–Webb University football team from 1997 to 2010.
- Rusty Paul: He was the second Mayor of Sandy Springs, Georgia.
