Overlord Mountain is a tall, impressive peak in British Columbia, Canada. It stands at 2,625 meters (about 8,612 feet) high. This mountain is covered in glaciers, which are like huge, slow-moving rivers of ice. You can find it in Garibaldi Provincial Park, a beautiful natural area.

Overlord Mountain is part of the Coast Mountains range. It is the highest point in the Fitzsimmons Range. You can easily see it from the Whistler Blackcomb ski resort. The mountain is about 15 kilometers (9 miles) southeast of Whistler.

Its closest higher neighbor is Mount Macbeth, which is about 3 kilometers (2 miles) away. Several glaciers surround Overlord Mountain. The Benvolio Glacier is on its south side. The Fitzsimmons Glacier is on the east. The large Overlord Glacier covers the north and west sides. Water from these glaciers flows into the Cheakamus River.

The first people to climb Overlord Mountain were Phyllis Munday and Don Munday. They reached the top in 1923. They used the Benvolio Glacier route. The name "Overlord Mountain" was suggested by the Garibaldi Park Board. It became official on September 2, 1930.

Understanding the Mountain's Climate

Overlord Mountain is in a special climate zone. This zone is called the marine west coast climate. It means the area gets a lot of rain and snow. This is because most weather systems come from the Pacific Ocean. They travel east towards the Coast Mountains.

When the air hits the mountains, it is forced to rise. As it rises, it cools down. This cooling causes the moisture in the air to fall as rain or snow. This process is called Orographic lift. It makes the Coast Mountains very wet, especially in winter.

Winter temperatures can drop very low. They can go below −20 °C (‑4 °F). With wind, it can feel even colder, below −30 °C (‑22 °F). The best time to climb Overlord Mountain is usually from July to September. The weather is much better then.
