Péter Gulácsi's Club Career
Playing for Liverpool
Péter Gulácsi joined Liverpool from MTK Budapest in 2007. He was first on a one-year loan deal. During this time, he played for Liverpool's reserve team, which won three trophies. Liverpool decided to buy him permanently on September 1, 2008. Péter was the third player to join Liverpool from MTK, following András Simon and Krisztián Németh.
He often sat on the bench as a substitute goalkeeper. This happened in 2010 for UEFA Europa League games against Rabotnički and Trabzonspor. In January 2011, he was the backup keeper when Brad Jones was away at the AFC Asian Cup. He was also on the bench for a Premier League win against Chelsea.
Loan Spells: Hereford and Tranmere
In January 2009, Gulácsi was loaned to Hereford United. He played his first league game there and made 18 appearances.
On April 16, 2010, he joined Tranmere Rovers on a short loan. He played his first game for them on April 17, helping them win 3–1 against Exeter City. His loan was extended a few times. He returned to Tranmere on another emergency loan in September 2010 when their main goalkeepers were injured.
Time at Hull City

On July 19, 2011, Gulácsi signed a new contract with Liverpool. He then joined Championship team Hull City for a year-long loan. He made his debut for Hull against Blackpool at the KC Stadium.
He got a knee injury on December 31, 2011, during a game against Burnley. He had to leave the game early. After his injury, he went back to Liverpool for medical checks.
In April 2012, Liverpool called Gulácsi back from his loan. This was because their main goalkeepers, Pepe Reina and Doni, were suspended. This left Brad Jones as their only senior goalkeeper. Gulácsi played 15 games for Hull City.
Back to Liverpool
After being called back, Gulácsi was on the bench for the FA Cup semi-final, which Liverpool won 2–1. He also played in three pre-season games for Liverpool in North America.
Joining Red Bull Salzburg
On June 7, 2013, Péter Gulácsi moved to Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. He signed a four-year deal for free after leaving Liverpool. He played his first game for Salzburg in the ÖFB-Cup, where they won 9–0.
On July 20, 2013, he made his debut in the Austrian Bundesliga. Salzburg won that game 5–1 against Wiener Neustadt.
Moving to RB Leipzig

On July 1, 2015, Gulácsi transferred to RB Leipzig. This club is a "sister club" to Red Bull Salzburg. The transfer cost about 3 million pounds. In the 2015–16 season, he played 15 games for the first team. He also played two games for the reserve team.
On December 17, 2017, Gulácsi signed a new contract with RB Leipzig, extending it until 2022. He played 34 games in the 2016–17 season.
A German sports magazine, Kicker, named Gulácsi the best goalkeeper for the first half of the 2017–18 Bundesliga season. He played 47 games in the 2017–18 season. In the 2018–19 season, Kicker also rated him as the best goalkeeper. He had an average score of 2.61 and kept 16 clean sheets (games where the opponent didn't score).
In the 2019–20 season, Gulácsi helped RB Leipzig reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the first time ever.
After Marcel Sabitzer left the team, Gulácsi became the new club captain. On May 7, 2021, he signed another contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2025.
On May 23, 2022, Gulácsi helped Leipzig win their first major trophy, the DFB-Pokal. In the final against Freiburg, he saved two penalties in the shootout.
On October 5, 2022, he suffered a serious injury. He tore a ligament in his right knee during a Champions League game against Celtic. This injury meant he missed the rest of that season.
He returned from his injury on October 31, 2023, playing a full game against VfL Wolfsburg in the DFB-Pokal. However, Leipzig lost that match 1–0.
On February 4, 2024, he played his first Bundesliga game after 491 days. Leipzig won 2–0 against 1. FC Union Berlin.
On September 28, 2024, he saved a penalty in a 4-0 win over FC Augsburg. In December 2024, Kicker rated him as the best goalkeeper for the first half of the current Bundesliga season.

Senior National Team
Gulácsi played his first game for the Hungarian national team on May 22, 2014. It was a friendly match against Denmark that ended in a 2–2 draw. He was chosen for Hungary's UEFA Euro 2016 team, where he was the backup to Gábor Király. After Király retired in August 2016, Gulácsi became Hungary's main goalkeeper. He played in every game during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.
On June 1, 2021, Gulácsi was part of Hungary's 26-man squad for the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament. He played in all three Group F matches. Hungary lost to Portugal and drew with both France and Germany.
On September 23, 2022, Gulácsi played his 50th game for Hungary. He kept a clean sheet against Germany in a 1–0 UEFA Nations League game. His knee injury in October meant Dénes Dibusz took over as goalkeeper for the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying games. Hungary went unbeaten in 2023. Gulácsi returned to the lineup on March 22, 2024, keeping a clean sheet in a 1–0 win against Turkey.
On May 14, 2024, Gulácsi was named in Hungary's squad for UEFA Euro 2024. Coach Marco Rossi chose him to start the opening Group A match against Switzerland, which Hungary lost 3–1. On June 23, he kept his first clean sheet in a major international tournament as Hungary beat Scotland 1–0.
