Pacific Fair is a huge shopping centre located in Broadbeach Waters on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It's one of the biggest shopping centres in Queensland and among the top five largest in the whole country!
Pacific Fair first opened its doors in 1977. It was built on what used to be swampland. Back then, it had 96 smaller shops and two main stores. When it was new, it became the biggest shopping mall on the Gold Coast.
The original Pacific Fair was quite unique. It had an outdoor design with different themes. You could find mock-Tudor buildings, European-style streets, and even Asian villages with ponds. Over the years, Pacific Fair has grown a lot. Today, it has more than 400 specialty stores and many large main shops. In 2014, a big makeover project started to make it even better for the growing Gold Coast area.
Before its big makeover, Pacific Fair had four main stores. These included a four-level Myer, Kmart, Target, and Coles. It also had a 12-screen cinema, which is now called Event Cinemas.
Pacific Fair is a major place for public transport on the Gold Coast. Many buses stop there, and the Broadbeach South G:Link tram station is very close. Nearby, you can also find The Star Gold Coast casino and the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre. The shopping centre is right next to Little Tallebudgera Creek. It is also at the southern end of the Surfers Riverwalk.
This shopping centre was even shown on the TV show The Mole in its third season!

Pacific Fair's Big Makeover
Work on a huge redevelopment project for Pacific Fair started in January 2014. This project also involved giving the centre a new look and brand. The well-known pink towers and lotus flower logos were updated to a more modern style.
This big makeover cost $670 million. It added 120 new specialty stores. These included a large David Jones store spread over two levels. Other new stores included an enlarged and moved Target, a relocated Coles, and new Woolworths and Big W stores. A large part of the outdoor area in the middle of the centre was changed. It became an indoor complex instead.
The new David Jones store is now where the Toys 'R' Us store used to be. A fun leisure area called 'The Resort' took the place of the old Coles. The new Coles, Woolworths, and food court are now in the southwest part of the centre, where the old cinemas used to be. Even a fancy Louis Vuitton store is now where a Warner Bros Studio Store once stood.
New Stores and Fun Areas
The expansion brought in a new area for fun and entertainment. It also increased the number of specialty stores to more than 400. In November 2014, the first part of the makeover was finished. The north-east mall reopened with a bigger Target and a new JB Hi Fi Home store.
More new sections opened in 2015. In June, a part of the new south-west mall opened with a larger Coles Supermarket and more shops. In August, a new Woolworths Supermarket, a new Big W, a Fresh Food Market, and over 40 more specialty stores opened.
In November 2015, Event Cinemas reopened with special Gold Class cinemas and a VMax theatre. Later that month, Pacific Fair opened 'The Patio'. This is a casual dining area where you can enjoy a meal. In May 2016, the 'Resort Area' opened. This area has pools and relaxing spaces. It also brought in more international brands like H&M and Uniqlo.
