The lake is completely inside the Buade Township. Palluau Lake is just outside the western border of the Ashuapmushuan Wildlife Reserve. It sits about halfway between Marquette Lake to the east and Frontenac Lake (Milieu River) to the west.
Logging is the main activity around the lake. Tourism, like fishing and camping, is also important.
A forest road, R0212, runs along the north side of the lake. This road connects to Route 167 further east. Route 167 links Chibougamau and Saint-Félicien, Quebec. It also connects to the Canadian National Railway line. Other smaller forest roads serve the area south of the lake.
The surface of Palluau Lake is usually frozen from early November to mid-May. However, it is generally safe to walk or drive on the ice from mid-November to mid-April.
