Pamela Spratlen was born in Columbus, Ohio. She grew up in both Washington state and California. Her father, Thaddeus Spratlen, was a professor at the University of Washington. He taught in the School of Business. Her mother, Lois Price Spratlen, was also a professor at the University of Washington. She worked in the School of Nursing.

Pamela's School Days

Pamela Spratlen finished Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles in 1972. She then went to Wellesley College, earning her first degree in 1976. She also earned two master's degrees. One was from the United States Army War College. The other was from the University of California, Berkeley. Pamela Spratlen can speak several languages. She knows Russian, French, and Spanish.

Pamela Spratlen's Career Journey

Before she became a diplomat, Pamela Spratlen helped others. She volunteered for a program called Volunteers in Service to America. She also worked for almost nine years in the California State Legislature. This is where laws are made for the state of California.

Spratlen has received several awards from the State Department. These include the Meritorious Honor Award and the Superior Honor Award. These awards recognize her excellent work.

Pamela Spratlen has a sister named Pat Spratlen Etem. Pat is also very accomplished. She was a member of the U.S. Olympic rowing teams in both 1980 and 1984.
