The local bus service runs through many parts of Parkwood and all have interconnection with other bus routes and modes of transport. An extension to the G:link light rail system is proposed to run through the suburb. Beginning at Helensvale station, new stops would also be provided at Parkwood and Parkwood East before the line joins the existing line at the current terminus of Gold Coast University Hospital. From there, trams would continue to Southport, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. The extension is expected to open before the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
