Pat Falvey began his climbing journey by walking and climbing hills in Ireland. He trained hard to become a high-altitude mountaineer. He practiced with the Cork Mountaineering Club and became a member of Kerry Mountain Rescue. He climbed often in Ireland, Scotland, France, and the Himalayas.

He continued his quest by climbing Aconcagua in Argentina (December 1995) and Mount Elbrus in Russia (March 1996). He then climbed Mount Vinson in Antarctica (January 1997). Finally, he reached Mount Kosciusko in Australia in February 1997. Pat Falvey was the first Irish person to complete the Seven Summits. He was also the 32nd person in the world to achieve this feat.
