Patrick Cutrone's Club Journey

Starting at AC Milan

Patrick Cutrone was born in Como, Italy. He started playing football when he was very young. In 2005, at age 7, he joined a local team called GS Parediense. In 2007, he tried out for several big clubs. He officially joined AC Milan's academy in June 2007. He spent ten years there, moving up through different age groups. He even played for their under-19 team. In March 2015, Cutrone signed his first professional contract with Milan.

Making His Senior Debut

Cutrone was first called up to the senior team in October 2016. He made his official senior debut on May 21, 2017. This was in a Serie A game against Bologna. He came on as a substitute in the last few minutes.

In the summer of 2017, Cutrone signed a new contract with Milan. Even though Milan bought many new players, including two other strikers, Cutrone chose to stay. He wanted to earn his playing time at the club.

First Goals and Key Moments

Cutrone started his first game for Milan on July 27, 2017. This was in a Europa League qualifying match. He scored his first goal for Milan in the return match on August 3. On August 20, he scored his first Serie A goal. He also scored important goals in the Europa League group stage. Later, he scored the winning goal against rivals Internazionale in a Coppa Italia match.

In January 2018, Cutrone scored a goal against Lazio. There was some discussion about whether he used his arm to score. However, an investigation showed it was not on purpose. In February 2018, he scored two goals in a game against SPAL.

New Strikers and Playing Time

In 2018, Milan signed another famous striker, Gonzalo Higuaín. Cutrone was the only young striker who was not put up for sale. In August 2018, he scored a winning goal against Roma in the last minute. This helped Milan get their first win of the season.

In October 2018, Cutrone extended his contract with Milan until 2023. However, Milan later bought another striker, Krzysztof Piątek. The coach, Gennaro Gattuso, preferred a different team setup. This meant Cutrone's playing time became less. He struggled to score goals during this period.

Moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers

On July 30, 2019, Cutrone joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in England. He signed a four-year contract. He made his debut for Wolves in a 2019–20 UEFA Europa League match on August 8. His first Premier League game was on August 11.

First Goals for Wolves

Cutrone scored his first goal for Wolves on September 14, 2019, in a game against Chelsea. In December 2019, he scored another goal against West Ham United just two minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Loan Spells Away from Wolves

On January 10, 2020, Cutrone went on an 18-month loan to Fiorentina in Italy. He returned to Wolves in January 2021. He played a few games, including an FA Cup match. However, he was soon sent out on loan again.

Playing for Fiorentina

Cutrone joined Fiorentina on loan in January 2020. He made his debut two days later. On January 15, he scored his first goal for Fiorentina in a Coppa Italia game against Atalanta. He was called back by Wolves in January 2021.

Time at Valencia

On January 31, 2021, Cutrone moved to La Liga club Valencia in Spain. He joined them on loan for the rest of the 2020–21 season.

Loan to Empoli

Before the 2021–22 season, Cutrone returned to Italy. He joined Empoli on loan. Empoli had just been promoted to Serie A.

Joining Hometown Club Como

On August 29, 2022, Cutrone signed a three-year contract with his hometown club, Como. They play in Serie B. He has been a key player for Como, helping them achieve promotion to Serie A for the 2024-25 season. As of May 2025, he has played over 100 games for Como and scored 30 goals.

Patrick Cutrone's International Career

Cutrone has played for Italy at many youth levels. He represented Italy's under-15, under-16, under-17, under-18, and under-19 teams. He played 57 games and scored 27 goals for these youth teams. He was part of the squads for the 2015 European U-17 Championship and the 2016 European U-19 Championship.

He made his debut for the Italy U21 team on September 1, 2017. He scored his first goal for the U21 team a few days later.

In March 2018, he was called up to the senior Italy national team for the first time. He made his senior international debut on March 23, 2018, in a friendly game against Argentina. He was also part of the Italy under-21 team for the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. He scored a goal in a match against Belgium.

Patrick Cutrone's Playing Style

Cutrone is known for his ability to score goals. Many football experts describe him as a "true number 9" (a classic striker). His main strengths are his physical power, good positioning, and ability to head the ball. He is also good at finding chances and moving around the field. People also praise his hard work without the ball.

He has been compared to former Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi. Inzaghi used to coach Cutrone when he was in Milan's youth academy. Cutrone looked up to players like Mattia Destro, Andrea Belotti, and Álvaro Morata. Even though he is naturally right-footed, he can shoot well with both feet.

Sometimes, his former coach Gennaro Gattuso used him as a left winger. He can also play alongside another striker in a 4–4–2 formation. This shows he can adapt to different roles.

Former Milan player Daniele Massaro called Cutrone a "supersub." This is because Cutrone often scores important goals after coming off the bench.

Patrick Cutrone's Personal Life

In 2021, Cutrone went to the UEFA Euro 2020 Final in London. He cheered for Italy as they won against England. He even helped organize chants among the Italian fans.

Sadly, his father Pasquale passed away on January 26, 2022. When he played for Milan and Fiorentina, Cutrone wore the number 63 jersey. This was a tribute to his father, who was born in 1963.

On June 21, 2023, Cutrone married Greta Vergani in his hometown of Como. His friend and fellow footballer Manuel Locatelli was his best man.
