Patrick Frank Surtain II (born April 14, 2000) is an American professional football player. He plays as a cornerback for the Denver Broncos in the National Football League (NFL). Patrick played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Broncos chose him as the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft.

Early Life and High School Football
Patrick Surtain II grew up in Plantation, Florida. He went to American Heritage School. His father, Patrick Surtain, was also an NFL player and coached him in high school. In 2018, Patrick II played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He was a highly rated player and decided to play college football at the University of Alabama.
College Football Career

Starting Strong at Alabama
In 2018, Patrick Surtain II began his college career at Alabama. As a freshman, he started 12 games. He made 37 tackles and got one interception. He continued to be a starter for Alabama in 2019.
Sophomore and Junior Seasons
During his sophomore year in 2019, he had 42 tackles. He also forced three fumbles and broke up eight passes. He caught two interceptions and recovered one fumble. In 2020, he was again a starting cornerback. He received many honors before the season began. He was named the defensive MVP of the 2021 Rose Bowl game.
Professional NFL Career
Joining the Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos picked Patrick Surtain II in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft. He was the ninth player chosen overall. On May 18, 2021, he signed his first contract with the Broncos. This contract was worth $20.9 million over four years.
Rookie Year Highlights (2021)
In his second game, on September 19, 2021, Patrick made his first start. He got his first career interception against Trevor Lawrence. The Broncos won this game 23–13 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In Week 12, he had a great game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He made five tackles and caught two interceptions. One of these was a 70-yard play that he returned for a touchdown. This performance earned him the AFC Defensive Player of the Week award. As a rookie, he started 16 games. He finished the season with 58 tackles, four interceptions, and 14 passes defended. Both Pro Football Focus and the Pro Football Writers of America named him to their 2021 All-Rookie Teams.
Continued Success (2022-2024)
In the 2022 season, Patrick Surtain II started all 17 games. He had 60 tackles, two interceptions, and 10 passes defended. He also forced one fumble. For his excellent play in 2022, he was chosen for the Pro Bowl and earned first-team All-Pro honors. His fellow players ranked him 49th among the top 100 NFL players in 2023.
In the 2023 season, he recorded 69 tackles, one interception, and 12 passes defended. He was again selected for the Pro Bowl. In 2024, his peers ranked him 52nd among the top 100 NFL players.
Big Contract and Record-Breaking Play
On April 23, 2024, the Broncos decided to keep Surtain for an extra year on his contract. On September 4, he signed a new four-year deal worth $96 million. This contract made him the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history.
In Week 5 of the 2024 season, playing against the Las Vegas Raiders, Surtain had two interceptions. One of these was a 100-yard return for his second career touchdown. This play was the second-longest interception return for a touchdown in Broncos history. It was only shorter than Aqib Talib's 103-yard return in 2017. For this amazing game, Patrick Surtain II was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week again.
