Patrick Frank Surtain II, born on April 14, 2000, is an American professional football player. He plays as a cornerback for the Denver Broncos in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Broncos chose him as the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft.

Early Life and High School Football
Patrick Surtain II grew up in Plantation, Florida. He went to American Heritage School. His father, Patrick Surtain, who also played in the NFL, was his coach. Patrick II was a top player in high school. In 2018, he decided to play college football at the University of Alabama.
College Football Career

Patrick Surtain II started playing for Alabama in 2018 as a freshman. He played in 12 games and made 37 tackles, which means he stopped the opposing team's players 37 times. He also got one interception, catching a pass meant for the other team.
In 2019, during his second year, he continued to be a starter. He had 42 tackles and caught two more interceptions. He also forced three fumbles, making the other team drop the ball.
In 2020, he was a starting cornerback again. He was considered one of the best college players before the season began. Surtain helped his team, the Crimson Tide, win all 13 of their games. They also won the National Championship against Ohio State. He was named the best defensive player in the 2021 Rose Bowl game. After that, he decided to enter the NFL draft.

The Denver Broncos picked Surtain as the ninth player overall in the 2021 NFL draft. He was the second cornerback chosen that year. In May 2021, the Broncos signed him to a four-year contract worth over $20 million.
First Season (2021)
Surtain started his first NFL season in 2021. In his very first game, he played a limited number of snaps. However, in Week 2, he got his first start because another player was injured. In that game, he made his first NFL interception against Trevor Lawrence.
Later in the season, in Week 11, Surtain had an amazing game. He caught two interceptions and scored his first career touchdown by returning one of those interceptions 70 yards! This big play helped the Broncos win. For this great performance, he was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week. He finished his first year with 58 tackles and four interceptions. He was also named to the All-Rookie Team.
Second Season (2022)
In 2022, Surtain became the Broncos' main starting cornerback. He played in all 17 games that season. He had 60 tackles and two interceptions. His excellent play earned him a spot on the First-team All-Pro list, which means he was one of the best players in the entire league at his position. He was also invited to the 2023 Pro Bowl, an all-star game for the NFL's top players.
Third Season (2023)
For the 2023 season, Surtain continued to be the Broncos' top cornerback. He played in all 17 regular season games again. He had a career-high 69 tackles and one interception. His strong performance led to another Pro Bowl invitation for the 2024 Pro Bowl.
Fourth Season (2024)
In April 2024, the Broncos decided to keep Surtain for another year by using an option in his contract. In September 2024, the Broncos signed him to a huge new contract extension. This deal made him the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history!
In Week 5 of the 2024 season, Surtain had another incredible game. He caught two interceptions, just like in his rookie year. One of these interceptions he returned 100 yards for a touchdown! This was the second-longest interception return for a touchdown in Broncos history. He was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for this performance.
Later in the 2024 season, Surtain was named the 2024 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year. This is a huge award given to the best defensive player in the entire NFL. He was the first defensive back to win it since 2019 and only the second Broncos player ever to receive this honor.
Beyond Football: Jordan Brand Athlete (2025)
In July 2025, Patrick Surtain II became a Jordan Brand athlete. This means he signed a deal to represent the famous brand, which is known for its athletic shoes and apparel. He even met with Michael Jordan himself in Greece!

Personal Life and Charity Work
Patrick Surtain II is the son of Patrick Surtain, who was also a professional NFL player.
In 2023, Patrick Surtain II started his own charity called the Patrick Surtain II Foundation. This organization helps students in communities that don't have a lot of money. His mother, Michelle, helps run the foundation as its vice president.
