Paul David Hudson, born on February 27, 1971, is a well-known English weather presenter. He works for BBC Yorkshire and BBC Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, bringing us the daily weather forecast. Paul grew up in Keighley, West Yorkshire, and later became an Honorary Fellow of Bradford College in 2014.
Paul is famous for his friendly chats with other BBC presenters like Harry Gration and Peter Levy on the Look North shows.

Early Life and Education
Paul Hudson was born in Keighley, West Riding of Yorkshire. His parents, John and Margaret, noticed his interest in weather early on. When he was just seven, they bought him his first "kids weather centre." By the time he was twelve, Paul was already keeping his own weather records, which are now kept at Keighley Library! He even started writing for local newspapers like the Keighley News and Telegraph & Argus.
Paul went to Brontë Middle School and Oakbank School in Keighley. After school, he studied geophysics and planetary physics at the University of Newcastle, earning a first-class degree.
He also trained at the Meteorological Office College. After his training, he worked as a geophysicist for an oil company in London for a short time.
Career Highlights
After his university studies and training, Paul first worked as a geophysicist for an oil business. Later, he joined the Met Office as an international forecaster, dealing with big weather systems like monsoons and typhoons.
On Television
Paul Hudson is a familiar face on the regional news show Look North. You can see him on three different versions of the show:
- From Leeds, which covers North, West, and South Yorkshire, plus the North Midlands.
- From Hull, which covers East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, and parts of north Norfolk.
- From Newcastle, which covers the North East, Cumbria, and Northumberland.
Paul returned to the BBC Yorkshire weather centre in 1997. This was after he had worked at the Met Office's old home in Bracknell.
Did you know Paul has also done voice acting? He voiced characters in the English version of The Little Prince TV series. He was the voice of The Great Inventor and Ferdinand!
Climate Change Expert
Since 2007, Paul Hudson has been a full-time member of the BBC staff. He is not just a weather forecaster; he is also an expert on the environment and climate change. In May 2006, Paul was given a special role: he was elected honorary Mayor of Wetwang. This fun title was previously held by the famous TV presenter Richard Whiteley.

Voice of Cityzap Buses
In December 2020, Paul became the voice for the new Transdev Coastliner Cityzap buses. These buses travel fast along the M1 between Leeds and York.
Personal Life
Paul Hudson married Nicola Shaw, who is also a BBC presenter, in 2003. They have three children.
Paul enjoys several hobbies. He loves sea fishing and playing golf. He used to play golf at Riddlesden golf club and now plays at Moor Allerton. He also played cricket for Ingrow St Johns in the Craven League.
Paul is a big fan of Bradford City football club and has had a season ticket for twenty-five years. He was present at the Bradford City stadium fire in 1985.
