Piñon Hills is a community in San Bernardino County, California. Its name comes from the Spanish word piñón, which means 'pine nut'. It's called a census-designated place because it's a special area defined by the government for counting people.
Piñon Hills is located along Pearblossom Highway. It's about 28 miles (45 km) east of Palmdale. It is also about 15 miles (24 km) west of the Cajon Pass. The town is near other cities like Hesperia and Victorville. Piñon Hills is part of a group of three communities, including Phelan and Wrightwood. The area is about 4,173 feet (1,272 meters) above sea level. In 2010, about 7,272 people lived there.

Piñon Hills covers an area of about 32.1 square miles (83.2 square kilometers). Almost all of this area is land, with a very small amount of water.
The Puma Canyon Ecological Reserve (PCER) is a special natural area in Piñon Hills. It is over 350 acres (142 hectares) in size. This reserve is open to everyone and is popular for hiking and horseback riding. It has different types of plant communities. These include Pinyon-Juniper woodlands and Joshua Tree forests. You can also find Desert Wash, Desert Scrub, and Mixed Chaparral plants here. The reserve is home to many Joshua trees.

Piñon Hills is a place where a large military simulation Airsoft event takes place. This event is called Operation Lion Claws. It is held in the mountains of Piñon Hills, at the Jubilee Boy Scout Ranch. It is one of the biggest events of its kind in the United States.
