Pine Plains is found near the northern edge of Dutchess County. It sits in the middle part of the town of Pine Plains. A stream called Shekomeko Creek flows nearby to the northeast. This creek eventually joins the Roeliff Jansen Kill, which then flows into the Hudson River.
Roads and Travel in Pine Plains
Two main roads, New York State Route 199 and New York State Route 82, go through Pine Plains.
- Route 199 (also known as Church Street) goes east about 9 miles to Millerton. If you go west, it's about 14 miles to Red Hook.
- Route 82 starts as South Main Street in town. Then it turns east onto Church Street, sharing the road with Route 199 for a bit. Route 82 goes south about 9 miles to Stanfordville. If you head north, it's about 9 miles on a winding road to Ancram.
- Poughkeepsie, which is the main city for Dutchess County, is about 27 miles southwest. You can get there by taking Route 82 and then U.S. Route 44.
