The Story of the Movie
Gotta Dance! Short Film
This short cartoon is about Team Rocket and their new secret base. After building it, Team Rocket's Pokémon try to catch three Whismur. They want the Whismur to entertain Giovanni. Meowth uses a special baton that makes Pokémon dance without stopping.
Meanwhile, Pikachu, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, and Lotad find the base. They try to help the Whismur escape. The dancing baton often turns on by accident. This causes a lot of funny chaos and accidentally destroys the base. Even a wild Ludicolo and Loudred join the uncontrolled dancing!
Jirachi—Wish Maker Main Movie
The main story is about the Millennium Comet. This special comet appears in the night sky for seven days. It only happens once every thousand years. When it appears, the Mythical Pokémon Jirachi wakes up. Jirachi absorbs the comet's energy. This energy helps bring life to the area called Forina, where Jirachi rests.
This time, a magician named Butler and his friend Diane find a stone. This stone holds Jirachi. They take it away from Forina.
Meanwhile, Ash Ketchum and his friends May, Max, and Brock arrive at a big crater. A festival for the Millennium Comet is supposed to be there. They decide to wait until morning. While they sleep, the festival arrives! Pikachu, Ash's Pokémon, sees it first. He wakes everyone up, and they watch the festival being set up.
At the festival, May buys a special toy. It has seven panels. People say it can grant one wish if a panel is closed each night the comet is visible. Later, Ash and Max accidentally join one of Butler's magic shows. Max hears a voice from the rock Diane is holding. He runs to the stage. Max meets Jirachi, who he hears talking from inside the rock. Butler lets Max take the rock. Jirachi comes out of it later that night.
Max hopes Jirachi's wish power is real. He wishes for lots of candy, and it appears! But it turns out Jirachi didn't create the candy. It just teleported it from a festival stall.
Butler's true plans are soon revealed. He used to be a scientist. He wanted to bring back the Legendary Pokémon Groudon. Butler had a machine, but he couldn't find enough power for it. He was very disappointed. Now, he wants to use Jirachi's energy for his machine. A Pokémon called Absol arrives. Absol often shows up when trouble is coming. It tries to help Jirachi and warn the group.
Butler tries to use Jirachi's power. But Ash and his friends stop him inside the circus tent. With help from Diane and Absol, they take Butler's bus to Forina. They want Jirachi to go home. Butler's Mightyena puts a tracker on the bus without them knowing. The tracker falls off, but Butler still finds out where they are going.
Before Jirachi has to leave, Max feels sad about losing his new friend. Ash tells him about his friend, Misty. He explains that even if they don't see each other, they will always be friends. Before the group reaches Forina, they realize Butler has followed them. He sets a trap. Butler manages to capture Jirachi again. He tries to take its power once more.
When Butler starts his plan, a fake Groudon monster is created instead of the real one. This monster starts to absorb energy from everything around it. It turns Forina into a dry wasteland. It absorbs all plants and living creatures. This includes May, Brock, and Team Rocket, who had followed them. When Diane is absorbed, Butler realizes he cares more about her. With Ash and Max's help, he distracts the fake Groudon.
Finally, Jirachi takes back the energy used to create the fake Groudon. It uses a powerful move called Doom Desire to destroy it for good. Then, Jirachi leaves to sleep for another thousand years. May forgets to close the last panel of her wishing toy. But she doesn't mind. She never says what she wished for, but she believes it will still come true. Before they leave Forina, Max hears Jirachi's voice one last time. Jirachi reminds him that they will always be friends.
During the end credits, May gets tired of walking. The man who sold her the wishing star gives them a ride. They look at the stars and see constellations that look like Pokémon. They watch the festival's fireworks before continuing their journey.
