Poolsbrook (grid reference SK442736) is a small village near Staveley in North East Derbyshire, England. It used to be a special kind of village called a mining village. This means it was built mainly for people who worked in coal mines.
The village was created in the late 1800s by a company called the Staveley Coal and Iron Company. They built houses for their workers who dug for coal at nearby mines like Speedwell and Ireland Collieries. Over time, Poolsbrook has changed a lot. Many of the old houses have been replaced with newer ones, which locals sometimes call the "new village."
Local Government and Energy
Poolsbrook is part of the Staveley Town Council area. This council helps make decisions for the local community. It is also part of the larger Chesterfield Borough Council. Both of these councils have local elections where people vote for councillors to represent them.
For many years, the Labour Party has been the main political party in charge of the local government in Poolsbrook.
Energy Plans for Poolsbrook
A while ago, many people in Poolsbrook were interested in a new way to get heating and electricity. They wanted to use a system that would turn gas from landfill sites (where rubbish is buried) into energy. This system is called Combined Heat and Power (CHP), which means it makes both heat and electricity at the same time.
However, this energy plan did not happen. It needed more support from the local council to go ahead.
