Pratteln (Swiss German: Brattele) is a town in Switzerland. It is a municipality in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. Pratteln is part of the Liestal district.

History of Pratteln

Pratteln was first mentioned a very long time ago. Its name, Bratello, appeared in records around the years 1102-1103.

Pratteln covers an area of about 10.69 square kilometers (4.13 square miles). A large part of this land is used for farming. About 27.6% of the area is farmland. Forests cover another 28.1% of the municipality.

Most of Pratteln, about 43.1%, is developed land. This includes buildings, roads, and other structures. A small part, less than 1%, is made up of rivers or lakes. Very little land is unproductive.

The town is located in the Liestal district. The older part of the village has a star shape. It sits at the bottom of Mt. Adlerberg. Pratteln has grown over time. New homes and factories have been built down into the Rhine valley.
