Gempen (which is Gämpe in Swiss German) is a small town in Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Solothurn, within the Dorneck district.

History of Gempen
Gempen was first mentioned in old records in 1277. Back then, it was called Gempenon.
Geography of Gempen
Gempen covers an area of about 6 square kilometers (2.3 square miles). A big part of this land, about 52%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 41% of the area. The remaining 6% is where buildings and roads are located.
The town is found on the eastern edge of two hills, the Schartenfluh and Gempenfluh. Gempen includes the main village and smaller areas called hamlets. These hamlets are Gempenstollen, Schönmatt, and Baumgarten.
