Dornach (which is Dornech in Swiss German) is a small town in Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Solothurn, within the Dorneck district.

Dornach is also the name of a part of the French city of Mulhouse. Plus, it's the Scots name for Dornoch in the Scottish Highlands. In Scottish Gaelic, it's called Dòrnach.

History of Dornach

Dornach was first mentioned way back in 1223. At that time, a local priest was known as Johannes de Tornacho. This name likely meant "from the estate of Turnus".

A very important event happened here in 1499. This was the Battle of Dornach. This battle ended the Swabian War. It also helped make sure that the Old Swiss Confederacy stayed independent. This meant they were free from the Holy Roman Empire. Today, a special wall built in 1949 remembers this battle.

Dornach is also famous for the Goetheanum. This building is the main center for the Anthroposophical movement. This movement was started by Rudolf Steiner.

Dornach covers an area of about 5.77 square kilometers (2.23 sq mi). A big part of this land is covered by forests, about 46.3%. Another 17.3% is used for farming.

About 35.5% of Dornach's land has buildings or roads on it. A small part, 0.3%, is made up of rivers.

The town of Dornach is actually made of two smaller villages. These are Dornachdorf (also called Oberdornach) and Dornachbrugg. These two villages used to be completely separate until the late 1800s.
