Proctor is a city located in Saint Louis County, Minnesota, in the United States. It was founded in 1894 and is part of the larger Duluth Metropolitan Area. In 2020, about 3,120 people lived in Proctor. The city was named after J. Proctor Knott, who was a former Kentucky Governor.

History of Proctor

The city started as Proctorknott in 1894. Its name came from J. Proctor Knott, a former Kentucky Governor. Governor Knott was well-known for a speech he gave called The Untold Delights of Duluth. He gave this speech to the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1904, the city's name was made shorter to just Proctor.

Geography and Location

Proctor covers an area of about 3.00 square miles (7.77 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

Proctor is right next to the Bayview Heights neighborhood of Duluth. These two areas feel like one connected community. This is because Bayview Heights is separated from West Duluth by a large hill.

The ride starts in Proctor, goes to Tower, then to Two Harbors, and finally returns to Proctor. This event raises over $1 million every year for ALS research. This makes it the biggest snowmobile fundraiser in the world!
