The Colchagua Province (called Provincia de Colchagua in Spanish) is one of three provinces in the central Chilean region of Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins. This region is often just called the O'Higgins Region.
Its capital city is San Fernando.

Geography of Colchagua
The Colchagua province covers an area of about 5,678 square kilometers. It is the second largest province in the O'Higgins region and is located towards the south of the region.
Colchagua is a landlocked province, which means it does not touch the ocean. It shares borders with other areas:
- To the north, it borders the Cachapoal province.
- To the east, it borders Argentina.
- To the south, it borders the Curicó province, which is in the Maule region.
- To the west, it borders the Cardenal Caro province.

The Tinguiririca volcano is located in this province. It is near the border with Argentina, high up in the Andes mountains. A famous plane incident happened near this volcano in 1972.
Population and People
The people who live in Colchagua province are called Colchagüino (for men) or Colchagüina (for women).
According to the last national census in 2002, there were 196,566 people living in the province. This means the population density was about 34.6 people per square kilometer.
The biggest city in the province is San Fernando, which is also its capital. In 2002, San Fernando had a population of 49,519 people.
How Colchagua is Governed
Colchagua is a province, which is a second-level administrative division in Chile. It is made up of 10 smaller areas called communes (comunas). The city of San Fernando is the capital of the province.
A governor is in charge of running the province.
