History of Rüdtligen-Alchenflüh
The village of Alchenflüh was first mentioned in records in 1409. Rüdtligen was mentioned even earlier, in 1241. These two villages joined together to form one municipality in 1833.
Alchenflüh was once connected to the royal fortress of Kirchberg. Later, in 994, it became part of Selz Abbey.
For a long time, Rüdtligen was under the local court of Alchenflüh. Until 1528, Fraubrunnen Abbey owned most of the land in Rüdtligen. In 1640, both villages worked together to build the Kirchberg bridge.
The people from both villages went to church in Kirchberg. In the 17th century, several villages, including Rüdtligen and Alchenflüh, shared a school in Alchenflüh. This school district later split in 1730.
In the 1800s, farmers in the area started to change what they grew. They moved from growing grain to raising dairy cows. By 1856, there was enough milk to open a dairy in Alchenflüh. A warehouse was built there two years later.
The railway came to the municipality in 1876, with a station opening. The town grew slowly until 1965. That's when the A1 motorway was built right between the two villages.
The motorway brought new businesses and people who commuted to work. Three new housing areas were built for the growing population. New school buildings were added in 1969-70, 1989, and 2006. A kindergarten opened in 1987-88.
Before the 1960s, the area had some industries. These included a gravel quarry and a printing factory. After 1969, more businesses arrived. These included a machine factory and a distribution center for Emmi Käse AG. A regional potato storage station also opened. Large furniture factories like Conforama and Pfister also moved in.
A shopping center, Lyssach-Alchenflüh, was built along the motorway. It is shared by Rüdtligen-Alchenflüh and the nearby community of Lyssach.
