Fraubrunnen is a town in Switzerland. It is located in the Bern-Mittelland district within the Canton of Bern.
On January 1, 2014, several smaller towns joined Fraubrunnen. These included Büren zum Hof, Etzelkofen, Grafenried, Limpach, Mülchi, Schalunen, and Zauggenried. This made Fraubrunnen a larger municipality.

History of Fraubrunnen
Fraubrunnen was first mentioned in records in 1267. Its name was Frouwenbrunnen back then.
Long ago, during the Hallstatt era, people built burial mounds (called tumuli) nearby. You can still find these in the Rüdtligenwald and Binelwald areas.
In the mid-1200s, a group of Cistercian nuns started the Fraubrunnen Abbey here. This Abbey became very powerful. It owned a lot of land in the area that is now the Fraubrunnen District.
However, in 1528, the Abbey changed. During the Protestant Reformation, the Abbey's lands were taken over by the government. This process is called secularization.
The Battle of Fraubrunnen (1798)
In 1798, Napoleon's soldiers invaded Switzerland. The city of Bern sent its army to stop them.
On March 5, 1798, the Bernese troops met the French army near Fraubrunnen. The French had 35,000 soldiers, and Bern had 20,000. The French won this battle easily.
This defeat caused Bern's old government, called the Ancien Régime, to surrender. This surrender is known as a capitulation.
Geography of Fraubrunnen
Fraubrunnen covers an area of about 31.91 square kilometers. A large part of this land, about 52.8%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 38.6% of the area.
About 7.7% of the land has buildings or roads. A small part, 0.9%, is made up of rivers or lakes.
Most of the forested land is covered with thick trees. For farming, about 46.2% of the land grows crops, and 6.2% is used for pastures. All the water in the town is from flowing rivers.
The town is located in the valley of the Urtenen river. Fraubrunnen includes the main village and smaller settlements called hamlets. These hamlets are Binel, Bischof, Unterberg, and Tubenmoos.

The blazon (description) of Fraubrunnen's coat of arms is simple. It shows a red background with a golden stripe going across it. On either side of the stripe, there are two golden lions walking.
Population and People
Fraubrunnen has a population of about 1,804 people (as of December 2011). In 2010, about 5.9% of the people living here were foreign nationals. Over the past ten years (2000-2010), the population grew by 11.9%.
Most people in Fraubrunnen (about 95.5% in 2000) speak German as their main language. A smaller number speak French (0.8%) or Italian (0.6%).
In 2008, about 49.2% of the population was male and 50.8% was female. Most residents were Swiss citizens.
About 19.6% of the people living in Fraubrunnen in 2000 were also born there. Many others were born in the same canton (48.0%) or elsewhere in Switzerland (22.2%). About 7.1% were born outside Switzerland.
In 2010, young people (ages 0-19) made up 23.4% of the population. Adults (20-64 years old) were 60.9%, and seniors (over 64) were 15.6%.

Important Heritage Sites
The Swiss Reformed church in Limpach is a very important building. It is listed as a national heritage site. This means it is protected for its historical and cultural value.
Also, the entire villages of Büren zum Hof, Limpach, and Mülchi are special. They are part of the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites. This means they have special historical importance.
Economy and Jobs
In 2011, Fraubrunnen had a low unemployment rate of 1.54%. This means most people who wanted to work had jobs.

Famous People from Fraubrunnen
- Adolf Ogi (born 1944) is a well-known person who lives in Fraubrunnen. He was a former prime minister of Switzerland in 1993 and 2000.
