Dominique Raheem Mostert (born April 9, 1992) is an American professional football running back. He plays for the Las Vegas Raiders in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Purdue Boilermakers.

Mostert went to New Smyrna Beach High School in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. There, he played football and competed in track and field. He helped his high school football team reach the playoffs twice. After high school, Mostert received a full scholarship to Purdue University.

In his first year of college, Mostert set a school record. He averaged 33.5 yards per return. He even had a 99-yard touchdown return in a bowl game. He finished that season with seven returns of 39 yards or more. He also led the nation in average yards per return.

During his NFL career, Mostert has played for several teams. He played in Super Bowl LIV with the San Francisco 49ers. In 2023, he was chosen for his first Pro Bowl while playing for the Miami Dolphins.

Early Life and High School Sports

Mostert grew up in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He attended New Smyrna Beach High School. He was a star player on both the football and track & field teams.

Football Achievements

As a football player, Mostert was amazing at returning kicks. He returned nine kickoffs and one punt for touchdowns. In his senior year, he also caught 39 passes for 723 yards and four touchdowns. On defense, he made 81 tackles. Mostert was named MVP of the 2010 Central Florida All-Star Game. He caught three passes for almost 100 yards and returned a kickoff for a 94-yard touchdown.

Track and Field Success

Mostert was also a very fast sprinter, hurdler, and jumper in track. He won the 2010 FHSAA 3A District 6 title in the 300-meter hurdles. In 2011, he won first place in the 100 meters at the FHSAA 3A Outdoor State Finals. His time was 10.68 seconds. He also placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Mostert decided to go to Purdue University on January 14, 2011. He chose Purdue over many other universities that offered him football scholarships.

College Career at Purdue

Mostert played college football at Purdue from 2011 to 2014. He also competed on the Purdue track team.

Football Highlights

In his first college season in 2011, Mostert set a school record. He averaged 33.5 yards per return. He scored a 99-yard touchdown return in the 2011 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. He had seven returns of 39 yards or more that season. Against Wisconsin, he gained 206 yards on five kickoff returns. This broke a 42-year-old school record for total yardage and average yards per return in one game. He was named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week for his performance. His 837 kickoff return yards in 2011 are the second best in Purdue history for a single season.

In 2012, Mostert was named a captain for the team. He had 16 carries for 85 yards and a touchdown. He also returned 18 kicks for 463 yards. In 2013, he scored a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown against Penn State. His role grew in 2014. He finished with 93 carries for 529 yards and three touchdowns. He also returned 34 kicks for 731 yards.

Track and Field Speed

NFL.com ranked Mostert as the fastest college football player in the NCAA. Only Oklahoma State wide receiver Tyreek Hill had a faster 100m time. Mostert won gold medals in both the 60 meters (6.63s) and 200 meters (20.73s) at the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships. He also qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and as part of the 4x100-meter relay team.

Professional Football Career

Mostert was not chosen in the 2015 NFL draft. However, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent. He had a great preseason, leading the NFL in total yards from scrimmage. Even so, he was released by the Eagles but later joined their practice squad.

Early NFL Journey (2015-2016)

Mostert's early NFL career involved moving between several teams.

  • Miami Dolphins: He was signed by the Miami Dolphins in September 2015. He returned two kicks for 57 yards.
  • Baltimore Ravens: In October 2015, the Baltimore Ravens signed him. He returned five kicks for 164 yards in seven games.
  • Cleveland Browns: The Cleveland Browns claimed him in December 2015. He became their starting kick returner for the last three games, returning 12 kicks for 309 yards. He was released by the Browns in September 2016.
  • New York Jets: He briefly joined the New York Jets practice squad in September 2016.
  • Chicago Bears: He then signed with the Chicago Bears practice squad in September 2016. He played in two games before being released in November 2016.

San Francisco 49ers (2016-2021)

Mostert found a more stable home with the San Francisco 49ers. He joined their practice squad in November 2016 and was promoted to the active roster in December.

2018 Season: First NFL Touchdown

Mostert's role grew in 2018. Against the Oakland Raiders, he had seven carries for 86 yards. He scored his first NFL touchdown on a 52-yard run. Unfortunately, he fractured his forearm in that game and was placed on injured reserve. He finished the season with 261 rushing yards and one touchdown.

2019 Season: Super Bowl Run

In March 2019, Mostert signed a three-year contract extension with the 49ers. He had a fantastic season.

Mostert finished the 2019 regular season with 772 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns. He also had 180 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.

In the playoffs, Mostert was incredible. In the 2019 NFC Championship Game against the Packers, he rushed for a franchise postseason record of 220 yards and four touchdowns. This was the second-most rushing yards in NFL postseason history. He then played in Super Bowl LIV against the Kansas City Chiefs, where he had 58 rushing yards and a touchdown in the team's loss.

2020 and 2021 Seasons

In 2020, Mostert worked out a new contract with the 49ers. He started the season strong with a 76-yard receiving touchdown and an 80-yard rushing touchdown in the first two games. However, he dealt with injuries throughout the season. He finished with 521 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

In 2021, Mostert suffered a significant knee injury in the first game of the season. This injury unfortunately ended his season early.

Miami Dolphins (2022-2024)

Mostert signed a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins in March 2022.

2022 Season

In Week 5, he rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown against the New York Jets. In Week 15, he had 136 rushing yards against the Buffalo Bills. He finished the 2022 season with 891 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. He also had 202 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.

2023 Season: Pro Bowl and Record-Breaking Year

In March 2023, Mostert signed a two-year contract extension with the Dolphins. He had an amazing 2023 season.

  • In Week 3, he rushed for 82 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 60 receiving yards and a touchdown in a huge win over the Denver Broncos.
  • In Week 6, he had 115 rushing yards and three total touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers. He was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
  • In Week 15, Mostert scored his 19th and 20th touchdowns of the season. This set a new record for the most touchdowns by a Dolphins player in a single regular season.
  • On January 3, 2024, Mostert was chosen for his first Pro Bowl. He led the NFL in total touchdowns (rushing and receiving) with 21.

He finished the 2023 season with 1,012 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns. He also had 175 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns.

2024 Season

Mostert played in 13 games during the 2024 season. He had 278 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. He also caught 19 passes for 161 receiving yards. The Dolphins released him on February 14, 2025.

Las Vegas Raiders (2025-Present)

On March 13, 2025, Mostert signed a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Personal Life

Raheem Mostert grew up near the Atlantic Ocean. He loved aquatic life and often surfed. New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where he lived, is known for shark bites.

He married Devon Beckwith on March 3, 2017. They have three sons: Gunnar Grey (born June 2018), Neeko (born September 2020), and Myles (born June 2022).

Mostert cares about ocean protection and raising awareness for melanoma. During his time with the 49ers, he kept a list of all the teams that had released him. He used this list to motivate himself before every game.
