Dominique Raheem Mostert (born April 9, 1992) is a professional football player. He is a running back for the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League (NFL). Raheem played college football for the Purdue Boilermakers.

Mostert went to New Smyrna Beach High School in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. There, he played football and also competed in track and field. He helped his high school team reach the playoffs twice. After high school, Mostert earned a full scholarship to Purdue University.

In his first year of college, Mostert set a school record. He averaged 33.5 yards per return. He even had a 99-yard touchdown return in a bowl game. He was known for his amazing kickoff returns.

During his NFL career, Mostert has played for seven different teams. In 2023, he was chosen for his first Pro Bowl with the Dolphins. He also reached Super Bowl LIV with the San Francisco 49ers.

Raheem Mostert's Early Life and High School Years

Raheem Mostert grew up in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He went to New Smyrna Beach High School. He was a star player on both the football and track & field teams. His football coach was Lance Jenkins.

As a senior, Mostert scored nine kickoff touchdowns. He also had one punt touchdown. He caught 39 passes for 723 yards and four touchdowns. On defense, he made 81 tackles.

In 2010, Mostert was named MVP of the Central Florida All-Star Game. He caught three passes for almost 100 yards. He also returned a kickoff for a 94-yard touchdown.

Mostert was also a very fast track athlete. His track coach was Brendan Robinson. In 2010, he won a district title in the 300-meter hurdles. In 2011, he won first place in the 100 meters race. His time was 10.68 seconds. He also finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.

On January 14, 2011, Mostert decided to go to Purdue University. He chose Purdue over many other universities. These included Indiana University, Marshall University, and the University of Miami.

Raheem Mostert's College Football Career

Mostert played college football at Purdue from 2011 to 2014. In his first year, 2011, he set a school record. He averaged 33.5 yards per return. He even scored a 99-yard touchdown return in the 2011 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. This was against Western Michigan.

He had seven returns of 39 yards or more that season. This included an 81-yard return against Indiana. He also had a 74-yard return against Wisconsin. Against the Badgers, Mostert gained 206 yards on five kickoff returns. This broke a 42-year-old school record. He was named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week for his great play.

In 2012, Mostert was named a captain for the 2012 season. He ran for 85 yards and one touchdown. He also had 18 kick returns for 463 yards. In 2013, he scored a 100-yard touchdown on a kick return against Penn State. His role grew in 2014. He ran for 529 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 34 kick returns for 731 yards.

Mostert was also a member of the Purdue track team. NFL.com said he was the fastest college football player in the NCAA. Only Oklahoma State wide receiver Tyreek Hill had a faster 100m time. Mostert won gold in both the 60 meters and 200 meters at the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Raheem Mostert's Professional NFL Journey

Raheem Mostert was not chosen in the 2015 NFL draft. However, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent. He had a great preseason. He led the NFL in total yards from scrimmage. Despite this, the Eagles released him. He then joined their practice squad.

Moving Between Teams (2015-2016)

On September 14, 2015, the Miami Dolphins signed Mostert. He returned two kicks for 57 yards. But he was released by the Dolphins a month later.

Then, the Baltimore Ravens signed him. He returned five kicks for 164 yards in seven games. The Ravens also released him, hoping to put him on their practice squad. However, the Cleveland Browns claimed him.

With the Browns, Mostert became the starting kick returner for their last three games. He returned 12 kicks for 309 yards. He signed a one-year deal with the Browns in 2016 but was later waived.

In September 2016, Mostert joined the New York Jets practice squad for a short time. Then, he signed with the Chicago Bears practice squad. He played in two games for the Bears before being released.

Finding a Home with the San Francisco 49ers (2016-2021)

On November 28, 2016, Mostert joined the San Francisco 49ers practice squad. He was moved to the main team on December 31, 2016. He played in the final game of the season.

In 2017, Mostert played in 11 games. He had 30 rushing yards and 83 return yards. He was later placed on injured reserve.

2018 Season Highlights

Mostert played a bigger role in the 2018 season. Against the Green Bay Packers, he ran for 87 yards. He also had 59 rushing yards against the Los Angeles Rams. Two weeks later, he scored his first NFL touchdown. It was a 52-yard run against the Oakland Raiders. He then had to leave the game with a broken forearm. He finished the season with 261 rushing yards and one touchdown.

2019 Season: A Breakout Year

On March 15, 2019, Mostert signed a three-year contract with the 49ers. This was a big year for him.

Against the Cincinnati Bengals, he had 83 rushing yards and 68 receiving yards. He also scored his first receiving touchdown. He scored rushing touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers. Against the Ravens, he ran for 146 yards and a touchdown. He also scored a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints. He ended the regular season with two touchdowns against the Seahawks.

Mostert finished the 2019 season with 772 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. He also had 180 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

In the playoffs, Mostert was amazing. In the 2019 NFC Championship Game against the Packers, he ran for 220 yards. This was a team record for a playoff game. He also scored four touchdowns. This was the second-most rushing yards in NFL playoff history! In Super Bowl LIV, he ran for 58 yards and a touchdown. The 49ers lost the game to the Kansas City Chiefs.

2020 and 2021 Seasons: Injuries

In 2020, Mostert started the season strong. He had a 76-yard receiving touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals. In the next game, he started with an 80-yard rushing touchdown against the Jets. However, he suffered a high ankle sprain and was placed on injured reserve. He finished the season with 521 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The 2021 season was cut short for Mostert. In the first game, he suffered a serious knee injury. This injury ended his season early.

Returning to the Miami Dolphins (2022-Present)

On March 17, 2022, Mostert signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins. In Week 5, he ran for 113 yards and a touchdown against the Jets. In Week 15, he had 136 rushing yards against the Buffalo Bills. He finished the 2022 season with 891 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He also had 202 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

2023 Season: Pro Bowl Selection

On March 15, 2023, Mostert signed a two-year contract extension with the Dolphins. This season was a huge success for him.

Raheem Mostert's Personal Life

Raheem Mostert grew up near the Atlantic Ocean. He loved aquatic life and often surfed. New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where he lived, is known for shark bites.

He married Devon Beckwith on March 3, 2017. They have three sons. Their first son, Gunnar Grey, was born in June 2018. Their second son, Neeko, was born in September 2020. Their third son, Myles, was born in June 2022.

Mostert cares about protecting the ocean. He also supports awareness for melanoma, a type of skin cancer. During his time with the 49ers, he kept a list of all the teams that had released him. He used this list to motivate himself before every game.
